Doom3... scariest game ever?

anyone ever play that old game called D on sega saturn XD that one had me spooked until the cheezy end...just remembered about it.

Doom III was scary at first, but I quickly stopped being scared after it was the same thing over and over.

The game was alright overall. I'd put it in the low 80% range.

The scariest game (well, the whole game wasn't scary but this level was) was the Haunted Mansion in Vampire.

Damn it, you stole my post! I was going to post that! What is crazy is that the same exact thing happened in my case... I didn't place passed the second level, but it was scary and fun... I am not sure why I didn't go farther... Odd.

Seriously tho, I remember being scared first time I played Diablo 1, lol. Doom3 & FEAR weren't that scary at all to me.

Doom III was scary to me, all the way through. I started a new game on hard difficulty a little bit ago and still jumped at one part in the beginning. Very close to Half-Life 2 for the best single player game I've played.

Half Life 2 scared me the most because of the feeling I get that someone is always behind me for some reason.

Games aren't scary. Some have a shock factor (like System Shock II with random zombies popping out of nowhere) but aren't actually scary.

What? Midwives were very easy to melee. Their patrols are much more predictable than the patrol of a monkey, they're large (thus easier to hit), and turn much slower.

I thought the "They Hunger" mod for original Halflife was pretty scary, especially for the dated graphics. Not scary in whole, but Return to Castle Wolfenstein had some scary moments also.

Some of you guys actually found HL2 to be scary? I dont think i even jittered in that game, honestly i thought it was just fun to play, some parts were dull though. F.E.A.R was pretty scary to me tho, but i dont know if it was the scariest. Its really hard to say what games are "scary" especially when compared to horror films today, but F.E.A.R imo did a pretty good job with the atmosphere.

I enjoyed Doom 3 a lot. I wouldn't call it scary but I did get startled more than a few times.

F.E.A.R reminded me of the movie "Resident Evil" and the Umbrella Corporation's Troops for some reason... I really enjoyed that movie too (the first one especially). I haven't played the full version of F.E.A.R and the only thing stopping me is my wife... hehehe, have to beg my mom for an early B-Day present

Same. Some ppl hate D3 just because they werent willing to be open minded about it (in fact most haters are in the closed mind category for that game..). It wasnt revolutionary, but it had revolutionary graphics on release and was without a DOUBT, scary.

Play alone in silence with no lights on. If someone pretends their not scared they are lying.




Scariest game? Between Doom 3 and Nosferatu The Wrath of Malachi.
Pretty creepy game, great atmosphere.

Technically, maybe. But Far Cry still looked much better and also lagged quite a bit less.

Yeah people prefer the Farcry environment alot. I do too, I didnt like playing the game though for some reason.. for me it had a lag in the controls response in ole' FartCry.

Its got quite the following for sure. I dont know if "technically" Doom3/Q4 have been beaten yet.. pretty tough to top per pixel lighting and shading meguess? Speaking of released games, that is.

FEAR was really spookey, like this one part where there is a tv in a room, so when you get close to it you see some1 (little girl) walking in the distance, and then after 5 seconds the girl comes right up from the bottom of the screen up close. Scared the @#$% out of me. I really enjoyed FEAR, it was sorta like a horror/suspense movie combined with sick action and visuals. Wish it wasn't so demanding hardware-wise though.

one thing i noticed besides the sound on doom3 that got me so bad....was the fact that you cannot see a damn thing without having the flashlightout...which is by no means a weapon. the vulnerability instinct that kicks in...combined with everything else makes it more twitchyscary.

nothing has scared me like the original silent hill for the playstation. beating those monsters with just a pipe and feeling the thud in the dual shock, those little babies running around the old school (or was it a hospital, been a while), etc.

doom3 was creepy too. wifey loved to come in and scare the piss outta me when i had the headphones on and the lights off.

On the difficulty I played, rushing a midwife and trying to melee her would cost you about half your health since they predict movement and shoot ahead of you. Where as most monkeys, even if they hit you, don't do that much damage. Plus they were a single swing kill, second weakest monster in game.

Plus I was talking about which monster was scarier and I think it is the midwives. Mainly because their lasers actually hurt a ton and they say stuff like "baby needs meat to grow strong" in a mechanical tin voice. Oh and they were made by butchering the female scientists (or nurses?). Yea ... uh... scary.

Any game that makes me READ more than PLAY is poop in my book. Having to search for stupid key combinations combined with the feeling that I wish I could just fine the damn light switch, because I hate the dark. I hate the dark unless I am going to sleep... Anyway, I really wanted to play through Doom3, but the key codes pissed me off and the fact that it was always dark. You don't need to have a game be dark to be scary.

1) Two thumbs down for having to read the PDA every 3 seconds for the next 10 minutes of BORING story line just to fine a code.

2) Dark all the time... Where the hell is the light switch? The game needs it badly.

FEAR was more scary than DOOM3. DOOM3 had its moments though.
