i recently removed my door so i could paint it and the frame without getting paint on the hinges. but, when i tried to put the hinges back on, only 1 would stay. the other two the holes seem bigger than the screws.

weird thing is, i don't know how they stayed on there before... maybe wood glued the hinge to the door frame?

do you recommend that?
i was thinking of maybe filling the holes with wood filler and redrilling the holes for the screws. what do you think?

i know AnandTech has some DIYers around who've worked on entertainments rooms or computer desks so i'm hoping someone can give me some advice. thanks!

Just jam some toothpicks down into each hole and break them off. It may take more than one per hole. You will find out pretty quickly. The screw will push the toothpicks out to fill in the voids in the door and they usually hole quite fine. Worst case scenario you glue them in, let the glue dry, use an awl or similar tool to start the pilot for the screw, and try it again.

try sticking tooth picks in the holes. it has worked for me many times. if one doesn't do the job, stick two in.

darn, too late.

Good idea if the hole is not so big.
On a bigger hole, use a utility knife to whittle down a piece of wood the size of the hole. Start it small enough to go in the hole easily, and make sure it is long enough to reach the bottom.
Drive it in with a hammer until it bottoms out, them cut it flush with the utility knife.
I have done this hundreds of times.

Yep, I are not a carpenter...master or otherwise, (hell, I'm not even good enough to rate "Wood Butcher) but I've used that trick numerous times...especially in cheap particle board construction furniture where the fucking screws always seem to strip out.

Hardwood wooden toothpicks, wood matches, bits of wood whittled from whatever's handy...and a bit of wood glue.
