Man I wish asian chicks in lingerie would have walked around my doorm when I was a freshman........ ahhh so many fond memories. Freshman year is by far the greatest year ever in college. I wish I could do that all over again.

And then there was the handicaped bathroom on the second floor of our dorm which had no elivators.... That room saw some good usage

Bah, Quit your whining. When I lived in Hudson hall they hadn't finished hooking up the ethernet in the dorms yet, and I had to use my modem to dial John accross the hall from me in order to play starcraft together.

At least now all the dorms on campus have ethernet in every room.
In reference to nutty things in the dorms: When I lived in Schurz, a drunk guy from down the hall stumbled into my dorm room, opened a closet door, and I think he was going to micturate upon my roommate's wardrobe when someone ran in and grabbed him out of my room.

As for hormonal teenagers, just be careful to keep your door locked at all times. Some people go through trying doornobs on the female occupied floors until they find a victim. Most of the sexual assaults that get reported in Columbia occur at the fraternities, but most years there are incidents in the dorms as well. I wouldn't like it if someone of my own gender frequently exposed themselves in my dorm either, but take it as a reminder to be careful of the hormone crazed males. As far as self defense goes, there is an MU karate club with membership dues of only $20 a semester for students. That is a great deal for karate lessons, and it's practical stuff, not tournament focused. They have a club website on yahoo somewhere. It's taught by Dr. Firman. I have good and bad memories of dorm living.

having all your friends in one building is totally awsome -- always someone around to hang out with and we didn't need to plan things a week in advance like I do with my friends now (hard to find common times with us all working different schedules and having family comittments).

on the other hand... communal showers are kinda gross, there's definitely a "smell" assosiated with dorms (I didn't notice it while I was there, but after visiting a friend after graduation.... yech), and sharing a room with someone comes with its own set of problems.
