DLC tho :/

But cant see if its free or pay?

Its free obviously. You just check it in the dlc options in dota2 and it automatically downloads an update.

Testing with a GTX770, my FPS actually jumped up from 80 to 120 FPS. Also, alt-tabbing is now instant in fullscreen. very promising.

Also the shadows or something got changed between directx and vulkan. I can't quite put my finger on it, but vulkan version looks a tad sharper or something like that.

Nice, glad to see that a new API is providing a big performance boost

Is there any trick to get it to run with vulcan, for gl you had to put in a launch option ( -gl ) what do you do for vulcan? Or does it run with vulcan straight away?

If LoL followed suit, that would be an enormous shift. 80 to 120fps, though? What res/settings are you using on both?

Maxed out for both versions. 1080p.

After you check the "vulkan support" in the dlc tab for dota2, add -vulkan to the launch options, by right clicking on the game, properties, then launch options and add "-vulcan".

Here, for a visual example.

Lemme get some screenshots of the two settings side by side, maybe can eyeball a difference. EDIT I'm dumb

Was 2500K really bottlenecking 770 so badly?

no, i think he is just thinking it was on "feelings". Dota2 or any moba for that is not something that taxes any system components much. That is one reason why those types of games are popular, plays easily on most hardware.

I think its because DOTA2 is very cpu demanding, especially in teamfights your fps can drop tremendously. And late game, with particles and crap everywhere your fps isn't as high as the beginning, shows how inefficient the engine or directx could handle it. Vulkan seems to balance cpu load a bit more.

Honestly don't see any differences that stand out for me. Sorry that these aren't exactly scientifically exact same area screenshots.

the whole point is that the game shouldn't look any different according to which API is rendering it, it should just perform differently - hopefully better with lower level APIs.

looks are up to the developer and should be separated from the rendering engine.
years ago, you could have said that there is a difference in "looks" due to how differently ATi/nV implemented certain features of the GPU like AA or AF. but today it's pretty much the same.

The game should look the same, whats the performance like between the two.

At 1440p max settings a single 980ti runs the game at around 80% gpu usage in vulcan compared to 45~ gpu usage on dx12..

Big fail imo, even have some fps dips bellow 100..

How is that big fail? Means that your CPU is less of a bottleneck and your GPU can do it's job. And it's not dx12 it's dx11.

It shouldn't look different.

Doing a little A/B comparison between the screenshots you posted, there doesn't appear any difference at all - other than the fact that they are not taken from identical locations and the Vulkan screenshots are at 1919x1075 (borderless windowed mode vs fullscreen?). That might explain how quickly it ALT+TABs.

The shadows and stuff are slightly different perspectives as well, but they look similar enough. If anything, I would say that parts of the UI (down near the profile pic) aren't as dark in Vulkan... not sure if that means anything though.

Does Dota 2 have a timedemo/benchmark function?

I read on /r/amd that vulkan was limiting the CPU to two threads and that it was using up to 3 in Dx11. Some users were claiming worse performance, others improved. I have not done any verification so take with a grain of salt.

Big dota 2 player....Whats the consensus?

Should I do this? I'm getting around 60-80fps currently on 2560x1600. But at 60% render quality and everything low or turned off..

It's ~300mb, just try it out,you can change launch options any time you like.
But since your problem is likely the GPU I doubt it will make a difference.

Vulkan only helps cpu limited situations?
