Send me a PM with your email addy or steam ID (I'll have to add you as a friend) and I'll send you one when I get home tonight. This might be the wrong place to ask for this but are there any invites up for grabs? I've tried the bot on steam friends but to no avail.
Is this game like Warcraft 3?
In LoL, I find that the rune system and mastery tree makes it exceedingly annoying to play anything but the 2-3 champions I was planning to play, because I won't necessarily have the optimal rune page setup for random champion/role that I am forced to play by my team. And while mastery can be changed at the start of the match, if I don't have the optimal plan memorized it might not be enough time to look up the "correct" mastery setup. In a way, I'd argue this makes the game "harder", because it is an extra thing you need to memorize and prepare for.
The other is the skill shots in each game. In DOTA2, for the most part, if an ability is a skill shot it is one because the mechanics demand it to be a skill shot. The ability needs to be able to be aimed at nothing because there is a delay or something. In LoL, many abilities are skill shots for no good reason at all. It's like they take a nuke and think "hmm, lets mix things up and make this nuke a skill shot, just for the hell of it". In some ways, this makes the game harder, because it means there are a lot more abilities you need to learn to anticipate, dodge, or aim. IMO, it's the wrong type of skill- I like MOBA games because of the strategy involved, not the instant reactions required, but nevertheless it's a skill that I feel is required more in LoL than it is in DOTA.

Server seemed to crap out yesterday when I tried playing one game. Kept lagging badly from time to time and it was affecting everyone on my pug team. Also took three minutes to find a server after the ten players accepted the game. Odd.

You remember playing Warcraft 3? It involved controlling heroes, base management, and raising an army.
Dota was originally a WC3 mod (literally, a custom map) for the newbies that just wanted to play the hero.
You only control 1 unit - your hero. But in place it has more elaborate skills, items, etc.
It's a 10 player game with 5 heroes vs 5 heroes. The objective is to push with your NPC creeps and destroy the enemy throne.
Similar to SC1/SC2/WC3, it has a thriving community & commentating. Watch to get a good sense:

You'll see your familiar WC3 features like 3 hero skills + 1 ultimate at level 6. STR/AGL/INT stats, and 6-slot inventory.
I miss DOTA 1... Old times
Just tried this game, its got potential but has some things it needs to work out. Basically it has things it need to copy from LoL.
1. Hitting spacebar should center the camera on your character and not go off somewhere else.
2. You need to be able to browse shop by item attributes, attack speed, damage, etc...
3. Holding down right mouse button should make your character follow your cursor.
4. You need to be able to access game settings while in game.
Those are all the things I can think of right now.
The game has potential? wtf?
I'm going to assume you are Not trolling. MOBA/ARTS genre was invented by Dota (2003) by Eul & Guinsoo. It was only after Icefrog took over (2005), the game became a viable competitive game world-wide. LoL is a derivative of it (2009). Dota 2 continues the true Dota heritage with Icefrog teamed up with Valve.
Most of your questions come from you just not knowing.
1. F1 key selects your hero by default. Double tapping it focuses the camera. Space bar cuts the camera to the latest event. This is the original keys of Warcraft 3 & Dota 1.
2. A rookie mistake? Aside from basic items, you shouldn't categorize items by its innate stats. That is misleading the items' roles for the new players.
3. Another rookie mistake. Camera following the hero is absolutely horrid. It gives you tunnel vision and zero map surrounding. 80% of the time, I'm not even looking at my own hero. This rookie method is never used in Dota. And I'm very positive good LoL players don't do this either. Get rid of this habit. That being said, double click on the hero portrait, it locks the camera.
4. Click the setting button on top left. Come on.
I usually don't care for the LoL vs Dota pissing match, but Dota is a superior game.
.
Another thing that is better in LoL is keybindings. It seems in Dota2 you cant do modifiers, in LoL you can.
Just by your post, I can tell you are not good at LoL or Dota. Sorry, but sorting the shop? Good players memorize the keybindings and buy instantly. Just because you don't know the items, doesn't mean the sort is bad. Learn them and be done with it.Lol, I thought my post might get the fanboys fired up, and I was right. Seriously dude, stop being such a fanboy, its a video game calm down. Yes, Im quite familiar with where LoL and Dota2 came from, I was probably playing WC3 while you were suckling on your mommy's teet.
1. Good, well hopefully I can change that to spacebar. If I hold down F1 will the camera continue to follow my character?
2. What you should or shouldnt do is up to the preference of the player, I want to be able to search by item stats, which it appears you cant do in Dota2.
3. Meh, Im not talking about the camera following your character. If you hold down the right mouse button in LoL your character will follow your cursor for as long as you have the button held down, this is so you dont have to click a million times a second, you can just hold your rmb down. Another thing LoL has that Dota2 doesnt seem to have is shift-right click to attack move, it seems in Dota2 you have to hit A to attack move, I like shift-rightclick better. Ill have to play around, maybe remap it off A or put it on my mouse somehow.
4. I didnt see a setting button.
Dota2 has some things I like but Id hardly call it "superior" at this point, but I havent played it that much.
Keep calm and stop fanboying.
All of your critiques are because you have no idea what you are doing.

The shift click is CTRL Shift click. I can tell your map awareness is bad.
Really? Want to 1v1 me in LoL?
Im not saying Ill win but Im curious how good you are since you are so sure of yourself.
Last time I checked the game is played 5v5...
1v1 is no real indication of skill, as certain heroes will always have an advantage or disadvantage and some players play lots in the solo mid role whereas others very rarely do, so it really annoys me when people say "I'm so good play me 1v1 lolololol".
