Dothan looking so hot in some areas

P4EE vs. Dothan. vs. Athlon64 DTR

Crushing both the 3.4EE and A64 in Lame at measley 2.0Ghz...it fairs pretty bad in other areas like maya and scimark.

Lets get these to desktop already

only in some of the tests, not all of them. The dothans are good, but you also need to look at why.

First from the ground up it is built to have a lot of power at low speed. It also has a massive 2mb l2 cache. You could load many programs entirely into that. That speeds it up greatly. The p4 EE also has 2mb l2 cache, but it is a desktop processor. Take away its power from the wall and it is dead.

Dothan is good, very good.

Amd is doing better to though.

The real looser is the p4, cause now even intel beats itself.

Problem is people say AMD is slow in most Encoding/video editing, even though it is not anymore. The Pentium-M is getting spanked.

From what I saw the A64 i sstill king of the rost, even when you compare the NEW updated Pentium-M to the current A64. The A64 is egtting a major upgrade when it hits 90nm (sse3, new prefecth, etc...)

Pentium-M is great at running cool, even compared to the A64 (let alone the flame thrower P4), but unless they update it for desktop use I don't see it really grabing on.

A64 still ran away with the review. Dothan would have been more competitive at 2.2 or 2.4GHz; wonder if they could've OC'ed it?

thats pretty impressive performance @ 21W i'll tell ya. I wonder if it will scale good aswell.. Imagine that one @ 3Ghz ^^ *drools* that will push AMD to bring out faster chips.. blablablabla.. man im too excited and tired, its friday

sorry to be a party pooper, but p4 doesn't have 2MB l2 cache

dothan's immensse cache helps it make up 4 a 400 fsb and ddr333 its got 2xl1, 4xl2, no level 3 but thats probly got a much hicher latency than dothan's l2. the cache makes em both expensive--639 for the dothan 2.0...not gettin one of those until the come out with faster and cheaper ones

PS they'd probly be great for OCing cause you could raise the voltages as much as you want with cheap cooling. once they get cheap they might replace everybody's beloved mobile bartons

PPS merry christmas dothan fans. dothan wamps at higher clocks. might i say BOOH! on the other hand, i cant find any OCs above 2.4 looks like dothan stays a mobile processor until intel can give it some juice...i'm thinking 800fsb, ddr2, 3+ Ghz clocks...maybe in a year or so.
