Double-Sided Memory and the 8KDA3J/8KDA3+?

On my 8kda3+ tried:
2 x 512MB Infineon double sided(pc3200, cl3), unstable @ 200 no matter what
1 x 1024MB Infineon double sided(pc3200, cl3), stable @ 200, almost stable @ 210. Higher unstable

I have now
2 x 512MB Corsair ValueSelect Kit400(pc3200, cl2.5) stable @ 218(cpu: 260x9). I think it can do higher, but I still have to try it.

I picked up a gig of OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Rev2 and am finally able to run 10x250 using 1:1 with the Soltek NF3 250GB board. Timings are 2.5-3-3-10-1T using 2.8 VDIMM and chipset is at 1.8V. Solid as a rock in Prime 95. Geil Ultra and Crucial Ballistix PC4000 wouldn't hit DDR500 unless I used 2T, but OCZ came through for me.

Hi all,

I just wanted to add some of the issues that I have been having with 2x512MB double sided memory in an Epox 8kda3+. I only recently discovered memtest86+ and prime95 while trying to uncover some slight erratic WinXP behaviour (ie reboots when workingwith large files). All my bios settings are set to auto/default which gives RAM timings of 2.5 8-4-4 @ 200MHz (the defaults I believe with my make of RAM).

Basically, I am unable to pass Memtest86+ 1.26 with both stick in my mainboard with DIMM1&3 giving the lowest number of errors on Test #5 (only one pass is attempted). When tested individually, both sticks of ram pass and one stick also passed when tested in all three slots. After this time I flashed the bios from May04 to Sept04, but still no luck (worth a shot I thought).

Adjusting the timings (making them slacker) as well as upping the Vdimm (from 2.7V to 2.8V) didn't yield any improvements (slightly worse then my standard/auto arrangement). I have also tried to run Prime95 torture test (with Dimm1&3) overnight but it failed (overnight was about a 7-hour window).

I have lowered the speed of the memory from Auto to 166Mhz and it passed memtest86+ on the first pass but I have been hoping (& trying) that this isn't the only solution to run 2x512MB reliably.

I would be grateful if there were any further suggestions I could try. Also, if there is further information that I have forgotten to put down, please let me know.

Actually AMD says there memory controller can only run 2 DS DDR 400 ram sticks at 166mhz, to run at 200mhz you need to use single sided ram or a single slot of dual sided ram. So if you are trying to run it at 200mhz you are going over AMD's specs, and it's really just a matter of luck if you can get it to work.
It's also a matter of the motherboard and the bios and how well it supports running memory above the specifications, just depends on if the brand is more interested in following AMD's specs, or their consumers wishes Your best hope is to wait for the next bios version and try it at 200mhz then.
Or RMA your ram and get a single 1GB ram slot.
