Doubts about my new screen :(

I am really having doubts about my recent purchase (AOCG2460PQU)..
the 144hz is fantastic, altough I don't play much shooters. more strategy, rpg games.. but it's still very nice to have such high FPS, even when just browsing the internet.
But I can't stop thinking about the quality of the picture that I guess I am losing in here because of the TN panel..
I wonder if I should replace it, or stick with it?
I really care about the quality of the picture I get, and I mostly do gaming in my computer.
So, what si you think? is the TN worth the quality loss? should I replace it with a decent IPS panel?

Thanks!

I believe in a good quality IPS panel,i have had 2 of the cheaper IPS panels and was blown away by the difference in quality compared to even the newest of TN LED based panels.A glossy IPS simply looks beautiful and even more so if the panel is covered with glass.

You could flip a coin and really go either way i think.

Good quality IPS all the way unless you like playing competitive shooters, or maybe 3D gaming.

For strategies & RPGs I'm not really sure why you went the fast TN panel route...

We all tend to get caught up in numbers fps, color depth, refresh rate. Honestly most are BS.
If you like your screen keep it and don't obsess. Everyone's eye see stuff differently nobody but you can decide if you like it or not.

Yeah you're all probably right, I was a little too quick about this purchase, because my main goal is gaming, I went on searching gaming monitors, and watched some reviews on the AOC. The reviews did mention the TN panel type, but they said it's very good gaming monitor. But I guess they adressed the shooters gamers mainly. And I didn't think the whole color thing through..
the 144hz is really awesome, but I don't want to spend this much on the very expensive fast IPS panels.

I have to admit, I splurged on a MG279Q and even the wife was like WOW LOOK AT THAT PICTURE. IPS does really look much better than TN - especially with the newer ones with lower refresh.

I guess I was too quick about this decision..
So what do you recommend? I saw this one- Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24'' LED IPS and this one- Dell UltraSharp U2415 24.1' LED IPS..
there is a pretty big difference in their price, anyone knows why? because they are pretty much the same..
And another quick question- 16:10 doesn't do any problems right?

Right now you

-get a good gaming monitor
-pay a reasonable price
-get good color

Pick two.

If you're not into shooters 144hz probably isn't super important, but gsync/free sync will be very useful for you. Generally you get the 144hz if you get a gsync monitor.

Before you give up on the monitor look to see if it has a photo setting. If you drop the refresh and turn off strobing it can improve color when you don't need it.

Mine has a bunch of modes in the monitor menu. I'm not sure on your particular monitor, but there might be a mode for color accuracy. 144hz mode isn't great for the color accuracy.

Going from my IPS to my 144Hz TN took a LOT of getting used to. The quality of my current display is crap, to be frank. The colors are bad, blacks are bad, and has a large dot pitch.

But it is super smooth with no noticeable ghosting. So for gaming it rocks.

One of these days somebody will come out with an affordable 120/144Hz IPS.

If you're happy with it then keep it, I was posting about this in the display forum but I ended up keeping my benq 2730z, also TN, after trying a few monitors, including the MG279q. The "ips glow" on the screen was just too much for me, any darker games and I would see an orange blob out of the corner of my eye in the bottom of the screen. I was pretty hesitant to get another TN panel but decided to try one and the colors are much better than what I remember. Vertical viewing angles are still a problem but that was not very noticeable to me in game so I prefer that to the glow. Plus the benq supports freesync up to 144Hz so that's a nice plus.

All in all, unless the picture is actually bothering you I wouldn't worry about it, most of the newer TN panels seem to be able to do good color when set up properly, it's mostly the viewing angles that are the problem still.

How do you think I feel. I just have some standard 60Hz TN panel. Granted for a TN it's a good panel but it still sucks compared to IPS. My father has a cheap LG IPS and it still looks better than my TN panel. Colors just look way more natural.

I really should upgrade, but the monitor works perfectly fine and I think the wife will give me the stink eye.

Some times I think people have just gotten so used to how bad LCD's are that they don't even realize it anymore, it's like technology Stockholm syndrome.

Wait. LCDs are bad?

I had the same thought. I think its comparing blacks & colors to a CRT. Personally I can't see a difference and I do see a difference in desk space. I can't imagine anyone using a 27" CRT on a desk you'd need an enormous amount of desk real estate even with a short depth CRT.

I do not see difference in monitor lag when I am gaming, and I game only on IPS. I assume, competitive gaming is different story.

My advice would be, go with IPS, no flickering monitor, and monitor should have good dot pitch.

Good luck with your monitor.

Its not so much lag. I mean there is difference, but look at this test.

I can read the text perfectly on that with a 144hz monitor in ULMB mode. Motion clarity is the biggest thing we've given up gaming wise and where a good gaming monitor shines vs any 60hz monitor. Or even 144hz without ULMB.

I was wondering if I play a game on a QHD screen but on 1080p resolution, will it still look good?
I was wondering about that because my GPU is strong but im afraid that under the QHD resolution it will have a hard time on ultra settings.

when i gave up competitive shooters, like CS, and Battlefield, CoD, and went to RPG's i also gave up TN's..

You need a really good IPS to enjoy environments and scenery in RPG's more so then a fast TN.

I have two Dell U2412M's and love them. 1200P IPS displays. The U2415 is pretty good from what I have seen.
