Based on my co-workers, no.

My company released a policy that is very clear, business essential travel only. And a bunch of co-workers are going to a worthless conference and are like "it's basically the flu, it'll be fine." What's nuts is one of them is the biggest germophobes I know. Another group flew to Seattle on Tuesday, after it was clear there was an ongoing outbreak there.

Americans won't make sacrifices to stop the spread and the government is too broken right now to make them.

The silver lining about this (if one can consider an economic down-turn as good in any way) is that if it happens before November it will likely do more than anything else to sink Trump's chances for re-election... that's the one upside I guess if this is the sign of an upcoming crash.

Hearing of a lot of conversations in my industry about how to survive this thing at least short term. Companies may not lay off a bunch of folks right away but hours will be drastically cut, operations curtailed, capital projects delayed, and investments shelved. Reminding me too much of 2008 when the calls went out to preserve cash at all costs.

There is a wave of economic hurt building stating with travel that is going to rip through retail, food, and entertainment as well that nobody sees right now.

There's a chance this can't be contained and everyone will just go on living normal. What he's saying isn't completely crazy other than mandatory giving it to everyone. Well right but that's the part that I said was completely crazy.

Also, depends on what people mean by containment. It may EVENTUALLY get around to most people but if you can spread out the time then it allows us to focus medical resources on people who have it at any given moment. Presumably if everyone was infected like Santelli wants the death rate would be much, much higher as it would totally overwhelm our ability to treat sick people. We're probably talking about tens of millions dead in that scenario.

Even if we assume the most optimistic numbers of 0.5% that is still 1.75M people. Then when you realize every hospital in the country would be over ran, the death rate would likely climb over 5%.

Not to mention the death rate of everything else people go to the hospital for.

Basically Americans refuse to make any real sacrifice if they can convince themselves it won't directly affect themselves.
