I suppose he could have done something else besides calling it a hoax and a conspiracy theory. Or perhaps he could have displayed some actual leadership qualities besides pandering to his loyal base by calling all other Americans 'human scum,' who 'want millions of Americans to die,' or something else like that as he did and always does.

You see, that's YOUR echo chamber. You freaked out because the last President wore a tan suit, but now ignore how the current President on a daily basis insults, namecalls, falsely accuses, and attacks every single American who isn't one of his devoted supporters.

It is amazing that this isn’t obvious to some people

Yep he does. And it's despicable. Has nothing to do with the topic though.
It has everything to do with the topic. This country needs better leadership than an asshole clown who openly hates more than half of the citizens he is supposed to be leading. And the current panic is a representation of that absence of leadership.

Jesus Christ. How about you? Can you name what a POTUS could've done to prevent the market drop? Show us your intelligence on this subject.

I already did. You showed us your intelligence on the subject by being unable to address it.

To be fair that Kenyan also put dijon mustard on his hamburger and at one point was willing to meet with Kim Jong Un.

I thought we were recently told that it was Obama's economy.
Only for about the first year after trump took office.

But preach it Bro. Good thing trump pressured the fed to slowly tick up rates and for congress to keep the deficit on a downward trend. Now we are set to cope with an inevitable downturn.

So glad he did not do everything possible to artificially inflate the market leading to a record setting single day dip.

Am I right?

Managing the economy is like managing bipolar disorder. Both the delicious manic highs & the dismal depressed lows go away. It's why patients quit taking their meds & why the GOP refuses constructive regulation. The only real pain lands on the little people, anyway. The lifestyles of the Ultra Rich are left intact in any case. Winning is for status & power.

You are apparently unaware of why the market crashed. Let me pout it in crayons.

You are a company that sells or manufactures widgets.
Your widgets or parts for you widgets come from China.
China is now closed for business.
You cant sell or make your widgets because of that.
Your widgets are now running low or unavailable.
Your market value now plummets because you have no products.
Your value on the stock exchanges crashes.

Thus, the market crash. Theres nothing the POTUS could've done to prevent that. Full stop.

Are you that ignorant?

Sticking to the topic on hand, what could the POTUS have done to prevent this crash?

er....credit default swaps wasnt the thing that robbed millions of their retirement. Its the foundation of the housing crash.

The money that changed hands over swaps did so because the value of the underlying securities, MBS, had been poisoned with toxic assets, AKA creative mortgage financing.

Since these drops arent of Trump's doing, no. Just like some of the highs arent of his doing.
He is a part of why they are dropping. Disinformation, nothing really offered to comfort anyone during this crysis, and when you use manuevers meant to help a falling economy to artificially keep an economy/stock market up, you end up with no options and no trust when stuff like this happens.

What is out of his control is global economy as a whole which directly effects ours, and other governments hopefully take steps to control what they can with their economy.

So, is he fully responsible, no. Does he play a part in it. Yes.

I already knew this. All you're doing is sidestepping the issue again, this time with more insults.
Trump could have taken pre-emptive action to prepare the markets for what everyone else saw coming a month away, but what he's been insisting for that month was a hoax.

Youre confusing dealing with the virus itself and the market response. They're different.

In that poster's world, the President must be either 100% responsible, as though as he did it from malicious intent, or else completely absolved of all responsibility, as though he weren't the President.
That has literally been his argument all day.

And right now it's not Chinese widgets driving the panic. It's hospitality, travel and tourism industries looking at SXSW with it's 400,000 attendance being cancelled. It's domestic employers putting their employees on travel bans. It's mayors telling people not to go out if they don't need to. All of that domestic income loss is going to come home fast. But it's under control and fake news by the Commander in Chief. Markets smell the bullshit.

He signed the budget busting tax cuts that flooded markets with hot money chasing returns that weren't there in the first place. It's the same thing that happened with the Bush taxcuts & the housing bubble. It's just a different credit bubble.

That is a fascinating perspective. And it's completely true!
