Because farmers actually work doing value creating work that produces stuff we want. Poor people either don’t work or do jobs that produce very little of actual value which is why they’re paid minimum-wage.

except when they sit on subsidies and empty fields that lay fallow for decades or just some randos with property that put cows on them for a massive tax incentive and call themselves, you know "farmers"

The thing is, I doubt he ever got his. I bet he's living off of social security. He's likely raging because he thinks they're taking all his money.

I get the feeling he's shitting out of a bag on his hip.

Not to make light of it--I get it--but he strikes me as the type that would be eternally bitter for that sort of fate that "the evil world hath dealt him!" and just turns it into bitterness and punching/murdering down to anyone that he thinks he can "catch"

Who knew trade wars were so hard?
Trump can back off any time. He can just say, well, damn near anything. He waffled before on his tariffs, he can do it again. If he thinks it's politically expedient, he'll do that. He said he believes in tariffs, but he's not wedded to what he said last week. China today announced they wouldn't devalue, well, as much as they said the day before, accounting for the bounce back (I heard). Where this all goes, I don't know, but I expect more blood on Wall Street before the VIX settles down. And remember, Trump loves a crisis, he can't stand being bored, and for him that's a never ending battle. But I don't think he has the stomach for anything big.

I don't know, he strikes me as someone that actually kinda likes sitting in his own shit and piss. I think he legitimately thinks that poor people are screwing him out of money and is responsible for some misery in his life. Maybe he can't afford the Viagra now (which would explain him raging about transgender persons in the military, it exposed that they were spending more on Viagra than sex changes, which I'd guess made them scrutinize paying for Viagra; same reason he's started raging about women's reproductive health and abortion as its often compared to how they fund Viagra). Which perhaps a catheter is responsible for him needing it.

I’d be happy if you’d cut out the payouts to farmers. I’d obviously rather nonoayouts like this go to anyone, not just farmers. But if the government absolutely *must* make transfer payments to redistribute wealth then the poors should be the very last to get those redistributions. We’d probably be better off burning the money to heat government buildings than paying the poors for sucking at life.

Ok, "Christian"

Ok, "Christian"

Switching tactics away from "he wears a diaper" to "he's a bad Christian"? Okay, I won't bother fighting you on that charge. A quick bible google search seems to turn up zero hits on the "tax the rich lots" and plenty of things that seem to directly contradict the idea of government transfer payments. I guess Libertarian Jesus was right, you progressives should reach into your own pockets to help the poor and not wait until the tax man forces you.

Proverbs 13:4 -
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Proverbs 12:24 - The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.

You're now reduced to arguing 'sure the bible says to help the poor but not by this exact funding mechanism!'.

lol. Dude, stop digging.

glenn is convinced, and will hear nothing else on the matter, that the poor are poor because they are slothful and decrepit. They are born this way and fate has chosen it for them, because it is simply who they are. Poverty, in glenn's world, has nothing to do with socioeconomic victimizing and the targeted theft to benefit the born-wealthy (the actual, truly, unquestionably slothful of the world--I mean, it is such people--glenn--whose craven fat-sucking essentially lead to every major revolution against established civilizations in human history. A fact that he refuses to accept ).

so, in his mind, the poor are poor because they deserve it, because they choose it, and because fate decries it. such simple-minded bible verses, then, ring true to him because he simply doesn't understand people. He isn't the slightest bit curious, which is probably the fundamental poison that wrecks all humans who suffer from this lack of necessary humanity, necessary defining characteristic of actual humans of our species.

We are naturally curious about all manner of things, people like Glenn simply lack this trait, which is what makes them so utterly reprehensible in light of actual human progress.

Meanwhile, markets down again today, gold shoots to 6 year highs, long bond yields drop, yield curve now almost fully inverted. Nothing to see here..

SPY only down about 6% from IIRC all-time peaks so the volatility bark is worse than it's bite so far. Definitely something to keep an eye on but this isn't necessarily the start of the Next Great Recession. It could be, or it could be a short-term correction like Sept-Dec 2018 from which the market recovered. The market is looking pretty ominous right now and I'd not be surprised if things went to shit, but it could just as easily bounce back up to new highs and remain there the remainder of the year.

Just don't deploy your reserve cash into new equities purchases yet. Probably need at least a 15% sell-off before rotating out of cash back into riskier assets.

Dude, somebody is doing some farming. Nothing else could explain what I see in the markets, my cupboards and fridge. Heck, I'm even doing some. Ripe red tomatoes are hanging from my vines, plums are coming in now on my plum trees, winter squash are ripening on their vines.

A couple of weeks ago I looked at the chart for the SPY and figured a drop may well be coming and I penciled in 282. That's the bottom of the current drop. I hope that bottom holds, but won't be surprised if it doesn't.

And the FRB cuts interest rates to stretch it out a little bit longer...

This is how it looks to me, with a good amount of uncertainty due to the trade war and China digging in for the long haul, and Trump flailing as election season kicks up.

Econ imo is weakening a bit, but will probably bob along in mediocrity for a while.

Either way I'm holding some cash and waiting. Not selling, bought a little bit on the big dip, but keeping some cash ready for a good opportunity.

Typical Christian these days, searches the Bible to find the verse most useful to him at the moment.

Obama market keeps rebounding no matter how many times Trump tries to destroy it with tweets and tariffs....

It quit being the Obama economy when Trump's investor class tax cuts hit the markets like a big jolt of crystal meth.

Don't take off your seat belt, the ride has only begun.
Agreed, the seat belt stays on, however with my trading plan I'm waiting for a sell signal and it's purely technical. A 6 year old could execute my trading plan as well as I do (assuming we both follow the rules).

This is considerably a news driven market. Without bad news we could resume the upward trend.
