Just download Tiny Umbrella and see if it can save your SHSH. If it was successful then you will see a saved SHSH entry near the bottom of the program window.

If that works then we can walk you through the downgrade process after.

I have an SHSH, but I'm guessing it is for iOS only?

iphone4 6.0GM (10A403)

Long ago, one iOS5 I was jailbroken, but never saved my SHSHs, did Cydia auto-save them?

Your SHSH is for iOS6. You don't have a 5.1.1 saved so trying to downgrade at this point is difficult at best and most likely not possible.

o.o

What exactly makes iOS 6 useless?

If it's YAMC (yet another maps complaint), I suggest you grab Waze, Mapquest, or visit maps.google.com and save it to your home screen while Apple works on improving its Maps.

I like 6. Ive used the maps app once. It worked well. I also paid for Navigon GPS a long time ago so worse comes to worse I use that anyhow.

iOS 6 will be fine once Google releases their own maps app. We've already got a tethered jailbreak for A4 and A6 devices. Hopefully it won't take too long to get an untethered A5 one out.

Cydia does save SHSHs. Of course they'll only have the SHSHes for the versions you've jailbroken, but it's a start. Thankfully you're on an iPhone 4, so you'll always be able to downgrade to whatever iOS you have the blobs for.

Are you sure? I just ran Tiny Umbrella and it tells me Apple is no longer signing 5.1.1. I already have mine saved but others might be out of luck at this point.
The iPhone Wiki is reporting that the signing window for 5.1.1 was closed yesterday for everything except the iPad (1) and iPod Touch 3G. So it looks like no further restores will be possible for owners without their SHSH blobs.

My wife has an iPod Touch (4th gen), just regular stock 5.1 I believe. Do the normal backups it does let you downgrade back from an upgrade, or do I need to do some research on the blob things first?

Thanks!

Of course that last post before mine doesn't sound promising though...

No, the SHSH blobs are not saved with the normal Apple backup. In the future even if you are not jailbroken you can use the Tiny Umbrella program to save your SHSH before you make a major update (4.x --> 5.x for example). Actually I guess it is better to save them every time after an update because Apple stops signing the releases pretty quickly and you can only save the SHSH while the current version is still being signed. It is also a good idea to keep a copy of your current firmware download (the .ipsw file) in case you wish to use those SHSHs to downgrade.

I actually was able to downgrade my iPod Touch 2G from 4.x (can't remember the version just how badly it broke my device) to 3.1.3 without saved SHSH but it took a lot of work and I think I got lucky going back to such an old version.

And just to let you know, 6.0 -> 5.1.1 downgrade means... a lot of hoops to jump through, especially now that Apple has stopped signing 5.1.1.

For instance, there's the baseband mismatch issue...

When you click "Save SHSH" in TinyUmbrella, do you see only iOS 6?

And either way, is this an iPhone 4S?

4, no S.

Awful performance, maps, app store.

Also, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COMPENSATE FOR iOS TAKING A STEP BACKWARDS. Stop apologizing for Apple. iOS5 was fine...then they runied a lot of it.

I find the app store to be much improved, performance to be excellent, and the maps application hasn't let me down.

Caps lock doesn't make your opinion more valid.

I have no problem with apple maps but the performance is much slower. My ipad 2 worked great until I put os6 on it. The internet speeds are much slower to where the ipad is basically useless for anything that requires a connection. I am not the only one either. There are tons of posts on other forums with the same issue. I have tested it with multiple networks and nothing changes. I can get over the maps issues but basic things like wifi should be corrected before issuing a new operating system.

Exactly. iOS6 on my wife's iPhone 4 was fine. I definitely like the improvements to the AppStore. There has been a big uproar about the new Maps app, but quite honestly, I never really used Google Maps in previous iOS versions. I use Navigon for all my GPS needs, so for me iOS6 was really more of the same with iOS5 but with little tweaks to improve the experience. I think they should have called it iOS5.2 though. I don't think the changes justified a full version bump.

I'll never understand the people who apologize for stupidity. They go with a new proprietary dock connector. People don't care.

The new maps app removes functionality and tells you to spend money to get it back. People say it's fine.

Performance takes a nose dive. People don't notice.

The new casing is more fragile than the glass back was. People just say it's fine, they'll buy a case.

Why do people accept so much crap from Apple?

/thread (unless someone can magically get me back on to iOS5.)

I just "upgraded" my iPad3 to ios6. Performance is fine, my battery drain when not in use is insane. I lost 50% charge while not in use over a half day or so. I thought it was weird but didn't think much of it. Plugged it in overnight for a full charge, got back to 100%. Didn't use it for two days and now its completely dead. Normally would have only lost a couple percent. Wasn't even connected to wifi, I'm very unhappy.
