Microsoft Auto-Update has probably far exceeded 5 million downloads in a single day.

Also, I'd assume patches and other things for games like World of Warcraft and such have also done so.

When you run an OS that isn't bogged down by bloatware and has viable specs it will load in less than 20 seconds.

Just timed mine, 3.3 seconds average. You just fail.

Mine opens in 1 second.

I will say this...I am running FF3 beta and it takes significantly longer to load than IE7. I have no addons whatsoever.

i never said it took 20 seconds per page, but every time i open it takes 20 seconds. i had maybe 3 or 4 addons, the ones that everyone here says are the best to have. hell, even with no add ons it takes forever.
my pc is is a C2D E8400 @ 3.6Ghz, 4 gb Ram, 8800GT 512mb, XP Pro. I have no viruses, spyware, adware, bloatware, etc.

I have FF3 Beta 5 and it loads just as fast as my IE7 and that is with a few addons.

when you start firefox on a fresh boot of XP it does take pretty long.

Is it really that big of a deal, though? I open a new browser menu maybe five times a day. Once one is open, I do most everything in tabs.

Well, I just ended mine with 14 tabs, and restarted it as a restored session with all 14...took it 9 seconds to load the program and get all 9 tabs going, another 6 seconds and they had loaded all new info for the pages and were ready to browse.

FF FTW.

It usually only takes that long to load when it's applying updates. I average about 5 seconds for Firefox 2 my systems, and about 4 seconds for IE 7.

Running the FF3 beta, seems just as fast as FF2 with fasterfox installed. No fasterfocs yet for FF3.

If you read the article, the record won't count updates. Its for full software.

Please show me where the article states that the record will not count updates/patches in future record attempts.

The ONLY mention of the word "update" in the article says

"One of the biggest hurdles faced is the fact that a download is the transmission of the entire, fully functioning Firefox 3 -- not just an update."
