If there's an HDR 4K 144Hz display, I would strongly consider upgrading. I just hope that there's hardware out there that can actually drive it by the time such a display is available.

I'm going to stay at 4k 60Hz.
(No voting option for that.)

The next screens will all have DP 1.3.
DP 1.4 will take a few years to get to us.

My next screen will need HDR and adaptive vsync. 144 Hz (or 120 HZ) on the other hand is a paper spec @ 4k for the foreseeable future. So, none of your options.

Eventually I'll go 4K 120/144Hz. I think I'd like 31.5" (marketed 32") for that resolution. And I want Freesync and backlight strobing both, so I can choose depending on the game like I do now.

I've had this display for less than a year though, and it's gonna be a while 'til I find what I want. No rush.

Hell, I'll take >100Hz 1440p on 32", don't care all that much about 4K. Can't go back to 27" after having 32". Or if >100Hz ultrawides come down in price, I'm all for that.

I may hold out for 8K @ 60Hz. I've got a few 3440x1440 @ 60Hz displays and I really like the 21:9 form factor. 7680x4320 sounds pretty nice.

I'm good at 1440 @ 144hz.

Next upgrade is going to be HDR, at 1440. Aiming for 4K in 2 new hardware generations from now.

This. I want 32+ 4K 100Hz+ and hopefully OLED and FreeSync. Sounds like wishful thinking.

I wouldn't buy a 27" anymore after using 32-37" for almost a decade.

Straight from Digital Foundry's Doom interview:

"Resolution importance is a function of eye distance to display and display area - essentially the angular resolution - and to a degree also from the individual visual acuity. What that means is that the further away from your display, the higher the pixel density. After a certain distance/pixel density threshold you are essentially wasting performance that could be used to improve other things."

I have maintained this view for years despite certain members on this forum trying to debate with me how amazing 23-24" 1080p monitors are or how 24-27" 4K is perfect. Not everyone likes sitting 20-30 cms from their monitor when gaming/viewing media.

My current desk could actually accommodate a 43" monitor easily. I would even get a 43" 4K 120Hz OLED monitor if they had them at prices that cost less than a balling vacation for 2.

I can imagine a 27" 4K 144Hz IPS monitor in the OP costing >$1000 which to me is a rip off due to IPS and such a small size.

This. I have a 1440p 60Hz, not interested in wasting money unless it's OLED (without issue OLED I might add) or something that has black levels and color accuracy at least as good as OLED. 27" would be fine, 30" or 32" fine also.

I want to be able to sit at desk at night and not have the panel glow in dark scenes. One can only dream...

I want an OLED with those features at this point, and am willing to shell out for something that doesn't make any compromises. I was very interested in the Dell UP3017Q but it seems it only does 120hz over USB-C (which no desktop video cards support), and it's too small for a 4K as well. In the meantime, I'll stick with my 1080p 120hz LCD.

I now use a 4K OLED (55" C6) as my primary gaming display. Next monitor will be OLED as well, not bothering with LCD anymore. The PQ difference is just staggering.

$5k for the Dell is insane though as my C6 cost half that ($2500)

High refresh rates are nice but pretty useless to me as a lot of my games won't render above 60fps and those that do require some serious CPU/GPU horsepower. I also watch a lot of prerecorded content which of course is usually 24/30fps.

Wake me up once 1440p OLED 32" and above are $1000 or below. Tired of garbage LCDs.

I'm at 30" 2560x1600 60hz, no *sync.

In the last 5 years there have been no alternatives for me. I want to upgrade and I have the money but there's nothing for my needs. 4K is too much of a performance hit in games, and if/when I do upgrade to 4K, I want something more... like 120hz, like *sync, like HDR.

i hate every display over 23" for my gaming pc.
it s terrible to use em for gaming with keyb and mouse. (with controller, which i hate, it s a totally different story)
I like to stay near the screen and 23" is the limit.

for other things (not gaming) i use
- 3 x 27" 5k
- 2 x 60" (samsung)
- and soon 1 x 75" (samsung)

so i like big screens, but it s terrible to use em in Gaming PC (keyb-mouse)

Yea, in the done with LCD camp as well. Never wanted a part in it, but not much choice. Only reason I have a 1440p 144Hz g-sync display is because my 25x16 went defective unfortunately.

4K probably won't interest me anyway until the standard high tier card of each generation can pump out a solid 60+fps on all games at high for at least a year after release. Not spending $2k on sli titans to get 45fps.

OLED is great. I had my PC connected to an LG OLED TV at one time. The one very major drawback with using the LG OLED TVs as a monitor is the automatic dimming. There is no way to turn it off. It's supposed to increase the life of the OLED. It's the same dimming used is plasma TVs. It can be very distracting. You won't notice it too much if it's used for it's intended purpose (TV/Streaming/Movies). You'll notice it right away inside of Windows. I'm hoping PC monitors do not employ auto dimming.

Yeah, but then you run into the serious burn out issues, especially with blue. OLED does look amazing, I just need the monitor to work as intended for 10 years before I'll bite.

There are no RGB OLED panels on the market. Samsung had the last one and it's now defunct. LG's panels are WOLED with a colour filter on top. The light source is white, there are no risks of "running out" of blue.

x3sphere, that setup is baus. I'm so jelly the 2016 LG OLEDs are so cheap in the states. They cost an arm and a leg here.
