I've been thinking of getting a new monitor even though this 997DF is fantastic. I was thinking of using a bit of my tax return money to buy a new monitor, perhaps any good Aperture Grille I can find or a 17" 8ms or 12ms LCD screen. The Factory Refurbished monitor is from Tech For Less, a seller that has a great rating from more than 300 people, and it is $214. Unfortunately, it has very VERY terrible shipping rates ($42 for UPS Ground) compared to other sites. I'm leaning towards an 8ms 17" LCD model instead, perhaps one that comes highly rated (i'm keeping the budget within this $0-$300 range).
I know the monitor is fantastic (thinking of the FP912SB, for one thing), but I can verify that I can play the game I play the most, CS:Source (sometimes go back and play HL2 on harder settings and do more exploring though) just fine at 1280x1024 (great system) and Doom III as well....so do you think an LCD would be a wiser choice anyways? I love to watch DVDs on my monitor as well, but do far more text reading than anything else. The only other decent Aperture Grille I know of has an amazing price on Amazon.com, $150, and is a refurb rated as having a 'Very Good' condition and that is a Sony CPD-E440. Should I spring for that instead? I'm not sure because I haven't used many aperture grille monitors more than maybe a collective total of 30 minutes in my life.
