I know I must sound like a complete newb, but I cannot get these results to send at all from my apartment. I was able to send them from my laptop on campus earlier today but I can't get anything at all to send from my apartment. I've tried using both PORT and PASV modes for FTP, I don't have ZoneAlarm installed, and I made sure that the WinXP firewall was disabled.

Resolution: 1024x768
Priority for background running ([N]ormal, [L]ow, Background): B
Threads: 2
Auto-send results ([Y]es, [N]o): Y
Auto-save interval (seconds; 0 for no save): 240
Rechecks for best-so-far results (min. 5): 5
Use passive (PASV) mode for FTP transfers: Y
Download sample results file after a number of days (0=don't): 3
Sample file URL: http://stephenbrooks.org/muon1/sample100.txt
FTP command call: ftp -s:script.ftp

Is cut-and-pasted from my config file on this machine. I just tried sending some results and it hangs at "Opening ascii mode data connection for .... .txt." Is there anything at all that I haven't already tried to get the results to send? If I'm unable to send from my apartment, I could always copy the results over to my laptop and send them from campus, but that's only going to be able to be done twice a week or so. I'd like to be able to send them whenever they get done being created so I can create more Anyone at all have any more things I can try? Thanks.

Edit: to fix the brackets around the B for background making everything after boldface

@supercommando:

That's odd. The hang at sending ascii is the most common problem ppl appear to have. But as u said, u neither have ZAP not the winxp firewall enabled. Sp far we've seen some plp how just were not able to send nomatter what they tried to do. Maybe u're one of them You should then set "aut-send" to "N" then.

Stephen, the guy who develops DPAD is well aware of that problem, and he said he's working on it. So just be patient for now and hope on future releases

BTW, sending results twice a week isn't bad at all, considering that Friday is our more or less official dump day!

I actually disabled the auto-send last nigh on my primary machine before I went to bed after dumping the results to another file so it wouldn't reach 100KB overnight and stop and I saw that it had passed 200KB this morning. I guess that's what it does, then, if you set auto-send to "no."; just keeps building results.txt until you do send it. I can live with that I thought I was going to have to constantly monitor it and rename the files every time they hit 100KB. I oughta be able to get twice the production now. I'm out of the apartment a lot and wouldn't be able to monitor the two desktops here.

Thanks for your help

NP man. Just keep DPAD runnning. Some of us accumulate their results.txt files untill they reach several MBs of size

I just added the 3 rigs in my sig to DPAD.

I'm only going to run the screensaver version on my P4, but that's just because it's my main comp and I like being able to see the "real" CPU usage when I'm actually sitting down.

I can't get the screensaver to work. I right clicked the .scr and installed it, then selected it from the list in the screen saver manager. When it tries to run, or if I hit "preview" it will uninstall it. There doesn't seem to be anything configured. Do I have to run the command line before I run the .scr or something?

Er, it's working now... for no apparent reason. Is there a way to set the detail level to lowest so I can squeeze the most performance out of it?

Set the Priority to {B} (can't do [] otherwise it will make everything bold ) and you won't be able to tell a difference at all whether it's running or not...i can guarantee you!

I don't doubt that the program is unnoticeable when crunching. Most DC projects are good about letting normal processes resume their work when they need to. I just want to be able to see the "real" CPU usage of my comp. ie: if Opera decides to monopolize the CPU, I want to be able to see it in SysMetrix (program I use to check out my system stats in realtime). If it's always pegged @ 100% because of a DC project, I can't tell if the cruncher is taking up the CPU or if it's Opera.

All you have to do is check task manager to see whats using what

Yeah man, config.txt, Priority for background running ([N]ormal, [L]ow, [B}ackground): B, if ur using win2k or xp, ctrl+shift+escape or right click taskbar, taskmanager. Don't know SysMetrix, so rather giving advice on something I do. Run the background one...much better than the screensaver...

Yeah, having task manager open all the time isn't something I want.

You can see SysMetrix in the top left of this old pic. CoolMon allows me to exclude a process from the total % of CPU time, but I use that to monitor my server (also crunching).

I'll try to join tonight. I've needed to get started on a good DC project with my two computers that do nothing all day, I've just been too lazy to do so. I have a 2.4GHz Athlon XP and a 2.3GHz Athlon XP that can basically run this 24/7. Hopefully I don't have the problems some have had in getting it to work.
