If I haven't played any of the other Dragon Ages, do you guys recommend me getting this game? Not so sure as far as story goes but gameplay seems fun!

I would recommend you get DA 1 and 2; but, beware that DA2 has some issues such as watered down combat, reuse of environments, etc (seriously, it's like you fight in only a few different sceneries all game long).

But at least you'll be up to speed on the story. Well, the story from DA 1 isn't really continuing per se, can't say much without spoilers, but it will be a good preparation.

Well, is story even that important in this game? If it isn't, I'd rather skip DA1/2 as reading "watered down combat" and "reuse of environments" don't really make me itch to play them

If story isn't that important, I think I'd jump on DA3

The story in DA2 leads directly into DA3, but unless you can get DA2 for extremely cheap, I'd avoid it. Its crap all around and you'll struggle to make it through once.

To me it is, but then I really go for games with conversation tree choices that can have a minor effect on things.

And to be specific, it's DA2 that has those issues, skip DA2 if you like and just play DA1. Though I think the DA2 storyline is going to have some things in common with DAI....

You don't really need to pick up any of the previous games as they are basically stand-alone stories involving brand new characters as protagonists. Only some vague references are made of previous games.

The environments I get but I thought some of the gameplay changes were definitely steps in the right direction in DA2 (and the DA1 expansion before that). In DA1, I thought non-boss/non-major encounters became extremely tiresome through the game - though "my character" was a tank in heavy armor which also contributed to that as I spent the majority of time in battle walking extremely slowly towards archers and mages and the like. I really appreciated some of the changes which made traversing the battlefield a bit more engaging and less of a chore and the addition of skills that made clearing 'trash' mobs less time consuming.

Ultimate DA can be had on steam for a tenner I think........and DA 2 was under a fiver on origin not too long ago.....

Yea they are worth playing through DA is better than DA 2.....DA 2 has issues from being rushed; but still worth playing through.

Dragon Age Inquisition, though, follows directly from Dragon Age 2.

e.g., Varric will be in DA:I as a companion, and there was a lot to his story in DA:2.

I enjoyed DA:O immensely, logging in a lot of hours there. DA:2 is easier to play through, but it does suffer from environment reuse, and mobs spawning out of thin air a lot.

If I were you I'd read the plot of DA:O, play DA:2, and be ready for DA:I that way.

I'm still not clear on the importing of saved games - I don't think you can, but Skyhold will let you pick a lot of different choices that you may have made in DA:O and DA:2

I'd offer a counter; play DA:O and Awakening, read the plot of DA2, maybe watch a few of the high light cut scenes on YouTube, and wait for reviews of DA:I. DA2 isn't really worth playing.

Never did play the second game

If you can find it for $5 or less and go in telling yourself "this will be bad" then you won't feel too cheated. You also probably won't actually finish the game, but bail out halfway after you realize things just aren't going to get better.

Lol...well I have a lot on my plate at the moment. Shadow of mordor, forza horizon 2, next month the evil within and sunset overdrive. Still playing destiny too.

I'm not saying the gameplay is great, I'm saying that the introduction to certain characters in DA2 is worth seeing. Heck, watch a 'let's play' of the game to see some of the scenes, which I'm sure will play a role in DA:I.

DA:O - the gameplay was much better than DA2, but I'm talking about plot preparation, and the fact that DA:O took (me) much longer to complete than DA2.

My point is Dragon Age is not Mass Effect. When there are references by reoccurring characters (such as in DAA and DA2) they are vague because the Edmonton team doesn't bother to really acknowledge your prior choices.

This is true. Your outcome in DAO makes very little difference in the ending of DA2. However, your actions in DA2 also effect the ending of DA2 very little.

The main point is that DA2 is a really shitty game, and its best to avoid it. DAO is on sale on Steam right now if you want to play the good Dragon Age games. And definitely wait for reviews for DA3 before buying.

Also while it may help to have played the games to get some idea what these settings will do.

They will have before launch a website called www.dragonagekeep.com which will allow to to, I believe for this part , import saves from DA:O and DA2, or I know this is fact as it was shown, you can create your world state so if even you lost the saves you can still make it

Yeah I read about that keep feature or saw it in a video somewhere, great idea imo. I wish ME had something like that, there's a lot of different choices I'd like to see the outcome of but at the same time I don't really feel compelled to sit through the entire series again just yet for them lol.

Your choices weren't really even acknowledged in Dragon Age Awakening, immediately proceeding Dragon Age Origins! Plus you could kill Sebastian yet somehow he comes back to life in DA2. Total garbage story.
