Remember guys, DA2 also had strong reviews to start. Not to mention, since this is such an expansive game, there is little chance that any of these reviewers put enough time into it to find out the true flaws, similar to how they only played the beginning of DA2 and then missed the extensive reuse of enemies, environments, etc.

Also, if you read between the lines on a lot of these reviews, there are warning signs. One reviewer said the tactical view wasn't useless because of how hectic and fast paced the battles were. Another said the game didn't make him feel tactical challenged or interested, but he still had fun anyway. Yet another said don't go in expecting anything 'difficult' or 'hardcore', which could mean 'involved and not shallow'.

If you liked DA2, then you have nothing to worry about since I doubt DA:I would be worse than that. However, to those of you who felt burned by DA2, I'd recommend at least waiting a month or two to let the hype die down and opinions settle before looking into DA:I.

Yep- I am waiting, just like Far Cry 4 - too much iffy stuff to trust. Unless a great sale comes along.

I keep waffling between PC or Xbox.... if I go Xbox, I can play the game on the 70" living room tv from the comfort of my leather recliner, while on PC I'll get access to whatever mods come out but be forced to play it hunched over my desk on a 24" monitor.

(alas, hooking my PC up to the tv in the living room isn't an option without annoying my SO, who'd silently bitch at me for all the wires/cables running through the living room.... maybe when we buy a house and have more space, I'll keep my gaming computer in the living room and use my home office desk as basically a docking station for my laptop)

You always buy the PC version.

How are the city maps in DA:I? Because if I remember correctly, DA2 had very small city maps.

You are supposed to go to Val Royeaux, the capital of Orlais in DA:I so I hope it is not just a small neighborhood. For some reason, I don't trust EA to do the location justice.

DA2 had 1 city.

Shrug . . . I think the scale/size of the game is one feature they seem to have nailed. Most of the youtube videos I've seen have called out the game for being utterly massive.

I wouldn't trust any reviews yet. Obviously since they have early access to the game, they are "co-operating" with the developer. And as someone else said, even DA2 got some very high review scores, like a 93 from PC Gamer. I actually put more credence in forums like this one than "professional" review sites. I also believe ME3 got some high scores from review sites.

I go by TotalBiscuit and posts here and nfohump when I decide if a game is worth it or not. Everything else is pretty worthless, particularly the gaming review sites.

I glanced really fast at the first few lines of some of the reviews that popped-up so far (mostly to avoid even the smallest trace of spoilers) and some of the reviewers claim to not only have played it for 50+ hours, but actually completed the main story line already. Holy crap, since how long did the reviewers got their hands on it then? Did they receive a full copy like the day after it went gold or something?

That's cruel, the waiting is tough. The game is complete, it's ready to be played from start to finish, it went gold like 10 days ago (or more, can't recall anymore), reviewers got their hand on a fully-playable copy apparently (since it's beatable, so it's not like they got a copy that was 'cut' to the middle or something). So why do we have to wait until the 18th dammit. Let me guess, because they had to 'mass produce' retail versions? I don't care, give me the digital version now, Thedas needs me!

Which it would deserve. ME3 was a good game.

I equate ME3 with having your favorite team lose the Super Bowl on the last play of the game -- a feeling of emptiness and disappointment that never goes away. Followed by outrage that you devoted over a hundred hours of you time for such a POS ending that makes the whole series seem pointless.

Some of these reviewers claim to have played the game for 80+ hours. That and the review embargo lifting a week before release (meaning EA doesn't feel it has anything to hide) make me feel pretty confident about this game.

It does seem like EA went the opposite of Ubi Soft & AC:U, doesn't it?

I feel conflicted saying things about EA that could be interpreted as compliments.

EA have slightly improved over the last few years, whereas Ubisoft stink.

Ign claimed 90+ hours, which is impressive if they've only had it a week or so, and still had areas unexplored. I watched some of their gameplay overview and it looked pretty promising since it looks like a mix of tactical and action. That video didnt really spoil anything, as they just wandered around a couple early areas without doing much. Looks pretty good even on ps4, and reviewers clearly had enough time with it given the ps4 got an early patch to fix system issues with it.

May not be a popular opinion but I never really enjoyed the overly tactical nature of dao. And although you can technically ignore all tactical parts here, the time review mentioned not really getting the game until they started to use it.

Im excited for it, although not sure where to play it.

Yup. I watched the AngryJoe review, he said he played it for 5+ hours which should be enough to get well into the game and thought it was great. Graphics looked only so-so but that was on xbone.

That wasn't his review. That was his impressions video. He stated near the end that his full review would be much later as he wanted to get as much into the game as possible.

I never go by reviews, they always seem to disagree with what I think in one form or another and also sometimes throw spoilers in ,however I will be judging the game soon since I've pre-ordered DAI.

Still some things I don't like about the game but open minded and able to adapt, just hope it's not over hyped like some games over the years.

Reviews are very hard to take seriously nowadays. Not because they are done poorly or unfairly but I really need to have a like minded adhd person with the same weird tastes that I have to trust an opinion.

Any game with good graphics, cut scenes , generic "fluff" will generally hit an 8 or better. Some games will hit that AAA 9/10 mark but I play it for 10 minutes than just cant deal with it for reasons I cannot quite put my thumb on. Like Deus Ex yellow world was a perfect example.

When it comes to RPGs, well I really love them so I get a little more comfortable with what I am getting. But then again, Dragon Age has been a underachieving series in my eyes. Origins was good but not GREAT. Something happened when I hit the bloody dwarf mines that turned me off. I just hated it. I will not even go into DA2.

My bet is this game falls somewhere between the 2 titles. Not quite as good as origins, but significantly better than DA2.

But ill wait for some well respected people here to weigh in, while I completely ignore review sites.

And then ill get drunk the day before release and order the game anyway. hahah.

Another thing looks like I don't like ie no separate storage system for your loot,

http://forum.bioware.com/topic/518565-pointless-inventory-limitation-confirmed-by-mike-laidlaw/

"As a long-time packrat RPG player, I was sad to sell my companion’s possessions. In my head I struggled with freeing up one more inventory slot, or selling off The Iron Bull’s namesake axe, or Cassandra’s Seeker shield. Call me a romantic, but those things should be proudly displayed on a wall or at least tucked in a box. To have your own fortress and not have a room to pile your junk can make inventory management a needless frustration."
Too bad no display cabinets like Skyrim has, would of been good place to put stuff.

Quote from one member says it all
to say the least. You have a castle but no storage.

That's sad...even one of the DLCs for DAO (with the undead captain in it) had storage chests with IIRC, unlimited size.

I'll get around to playing this game 3 years from now when it is cheap and there's no one I can talk to about the game.

But DA2 was so much better than DA1.

This game not being available on steam REALLY hurts. I don't even care if it's Origin only if Origin develops it's own in home streaming service. Steam In Home Streaming is SO NICE to have....

I don't see the issue,I've Steam,Origin,Glyph,U-Play to name a few installed with no issues, you can't blame EA being its one of their games so only natural it would be on Origin.

It's also available via retail ie online and also offline stores for pre-order.

The issue is exactly as I just stated. Origin doesn't have a service to stream their game. Did you just quote my post and not read it?

Only an issue if YOU need streaming, maybe Origin will do it at some point down the road,to be fair Steam has being around for a very long time and not surprising one of the first to offer this service.

I'll point out streaming is not a top priority for a lot of gamers.
