Glad I did not pre-order this game. Still trying to make up my mind, but might wait and hope for some kind of sale. I have an HD7770, does anybody know if mantle works on first gen GCN cards? Not expecting much, because I have a decent cpu, but it might be fun to play around with.

My understanding is that Mantle works on all Radeon HD 7xx0 series cards and R7/R9 cards. Not sure about the lower R3 and R5 parts though.

Unrelated to that, here's IGN's response about their goof with the visual comparison.

I don't know what you all have about the controls but I'm having a freaking good time with this game and found the controls to be not that bad. Not perfect but usable with a 2H Dwarf Warrior

Love how this game is turning out, i'm having a great time with it and don't regret buying it!

While I like the game the controls feel a bit foreign. This assuming you are using mouse controls. They just don't act like they normally do. It's almost like the Neverwinter Nights 2 team made them, which was also a good game with awkward controls, though this one isn't that bad, just a bit weird.

For controls, one key that I learned about that is a god send especially for looting, gathering ect is the "F" key.... make life a lot easier as long as the item is highlighted you will interact with it.

The other thing I would defenatly recommend with Nvidia card users is to upgrade the driver to the game release ones 344.75 ... I noticed a difference.

Man I want to continue to play but way late and have to work tomorrow

After the initial loading screen, everything just turns black. The official Dragon Age forums has a thread where hundreds confirm the same issue all with dual core processors. In fact an official rep posted a response saying the game will not work on dual core processors or tri-core. The game requires a quad core processor to run.

Yes welcome to 2014. Quad cores have been the norm for the past few years. Finally theyre pushing things forward!!

Its just kind of awkward since it uses the same Engine as battlefield 3 and 4, both of which work fine on a dual core processor, multiplayer aside that is.

I chose not to buy the Securom edition but I am way too much into DA to completely ignore it. Buddy picked up the game on console and reserved this weekend for it.

BTW, here is how the Denuvo protection works:
"Wanna know average number of times parts of exe code are fcked around between RAM and HDD in the span of one hour? 150000 copy/write iterations. That's about 10000 times more than usual. DRM constantly decrypts the game code into the memory and encrypts it back. This is the most bull**** usage of encryption software I've ever stumbled upon. And even though code chunks are quite small (couple of kilobytes per go at worst), they are all stored in one memory block. And playing the game for 4-8 hours(depends on SSD quality) means that you can say goodbye to that block." Source:http://www.rpgcodex.....5#post-3599880[1]
So check your install folder for Origin games. You might want to switch over to your hard disk drive with spinning iron plates instead of sacrificing the life of your solid state drive too early. Denuvo is also used by "Lords of the Fallen" and FIFA 15 so far. I think a lot of games will follow.

According to the majority of post within that reddit, it seems that the idea that it would harm your SSD is bogus.

All the source links except the /r/pcmasterrace are dead. But yeesh, 30GB of transfer due to Denuvo in 40 minutes . . . thats going to destroy SSDs. Have to wonder whats going to through the heads of some of these people developing software like this. They have to know how SSDs work.

Edit - Further on in the Reddit URL, its been debunked.

I've just seen that too. So the reddit post is basically someone just lashing out. I don't like Denuvo myself but I don't hate it enough to create false info about it.

Not sure what to believe. It may be technically possible though on a low memory system (2-4GB RAM) for Denuvo to constantly move the .exe code about in RAM to increase swapping which isn't duplicated on high-memory / swap disabled systems. And AFAIK, that "20MB write requests" that's written *by* the process (probably save-games, checkpoints, etc) doesn't include swap file data (that's handled by Windows on a 'higher' level, not the game itself). Eg, if I open up a large 2GB video file without changing anything on a laptop with 2GB RAM, it'll show "0MB process write requests" for the video editor's .exe, even though Windows itself will have soaked up over 1GB of swap space. Only way to truly be sure is monitor swap file & SSD write usage before & after running the game for a set period with no background tasks, as "process only write requests" is not proof (or disproof) of anything by itself.

Ok starting to get used to the controls now. Definitely a learning curve but after a few hours I'm into it. Also the game looks great in the hinterlands as opposed to the barren mountains the tutorial is set in. The hinterlands seems huge.

Dragon Age Inquisition Errors, Crashes, PC Controls, DirectX, Stuttering, Freezes, Save Fixes

Dragon Age Inquisition may have impressed the majority on consoles, but it still needs to fix a lot of bugs, performance and UI-related problems on PC.
Even if the majority of the PC community forgets about controls for a moment, there are so many game-breaking bugs and performance-related problems that need to be addressed immediately.
If you are experiencing any of these issues, you can look for workarounds in the list that follows!

I honestly don't know much about Mantle, so take this for what it is. I am currently running a HD7850 in my gaming rig with the absolute latest AMD drivers. If I go to the option to change the rendering in DA:I I get the message "Your hardware does not support Mantle" or something to that effect. Perhaps there is something else I need to do first, but for me it does not appear to be an option.

Unlike most games, DA:I defaulted to the highest graphics settings for just about every option which explains why my initial experience was pretty rough in terms of performance. Once I used that fancy AMD tool to optimize my game (which put all my settings for the game at more sane levels) the game plays quite well.

I guess it's all academic for me now anyhow as I have a GTX970 arriving today. It does seem that this engine will scale nicely however for people not running cutting edge graphics hardware.

It's GCN card so yes, more info here http://www.amd.com/en-gb/innovations/software-technologies/gcn ,

Says yes here http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955064773345788568/ .

So to recap Mantle works on all GCN cards ie

Available on select AMD Radeon™ R7 series, R9 series and HD 7000 series graphics cards, the visionary Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture is a radically new approach to the design of a consumer GPU, making it a top choice for gamers who expect the best

According to Mem's earlier link, Mantle should work if you do the following:

#15 – Dragon Age Inquisition AMD Mantle API Locked?
Install the updated drivers from AMD, do a clean re-install and clear your registry. That will fix the issue for you.

Not sure what "clear your registry" exactly refers to here.

From 14.4 drivers support Mantle,

Yes, AMD Catalyst™ 14.4 WHQL (or later) must be installed on your system to take advantage of Mantle-enabled software. This graphics driver enables Mantle for both notebook and desktop systems configured with AMD Radeon™ GPUs featuring the Graphics Core Next architecture.

I agree. Not sure that it indicates any great technical advancement, or if it is just that they did not put in the effort to make it run on dual cores. From what I have read, it apparently does run on hyperthreaded dual cores though.

Heads up guys, on the issue of PC controls, Mike Laidlaw's tweets point to them fixing and addressing some of them in the upcoming patch.

https://twitter.com/mike_laidlaw

Hopefully they follow through on that.

I actually put off buying the game, because procrastination more than anything...but, I"m sort of glad I did right now. Bad console port controls is one of the things I hate in pc gaming more than anything (as I posted days ago in the "what do you hate about pc games" thread). I'm really not interested in playing with a controller either.

If they do patch in some fixes to pc controls, and make it actually control like, you know, a pc game, then I'll be following my original intention of actually buying the game.

We'll see I suppose.

For all the complaining it really isnt that bad. Its tough around the edges my biggest beef might be the conversation lag...you know like their words come out .5 seconds before their mouths move ? Seems worse in the Prologue in fact after that the whole game seems to smooth out.

Playing a mage and really enjoying it so far despite the flaws. Hope a couple patches smooth out the issues.

Are the controls in this game actually different than in previous DA games? They seem exactly the same to me. What is it that people are having such a problem with? The only difference I have seen is not being able to right click on an object across the screen and have your character auto move to it. Normal navigation is the same as it has always been from what I have seen. It's almost like people are expecting FPS or Assassins Creed / Mass Effect style controls and these games have never had that to start with.

Yeah moving-to-loot and auto-attack would be nice to have but they don't ruin the game by any means. The choppy cut scenes are a bit annoying though, and the command line didn't really totally fix it for me.

If you are running an nvidia card, make sure you have the latest drivers, 344.75. It seems to fix the choppiness with the cut scenes. At least it seems so for me, or at least i did not notice it after the driver update.

Also with the driver update, it seems you do not need that command anymore either

cant say this enough use the "f" key makes, looting, interacting, talking ALOT better
