Any word on when the update is coming ? Don't want to touch this until it's gotten a patch on it.

Played for almost 11 hours yesterday (called in sick). Playing on a i5 3570 and gtx 680. I had (as mentioned) crashes..but ever since i made the post, it didn't happen again. So I had 3 CTD in the first 2.5 hours...and then not a single one for the rest of the day.

Playing with a controller. It absolutely was developed for controller (just like Witcher 2, and probably 3, in that regard).

Game looks gorgeous and runs really smoothly. I have been blown away by the lack of bugs. Even if it wasn't this day and age where we expect bugginess at the beginning, it is running really great.

I don't know what happened to that day one patch, but frankly, running the latest nvidia drivers, i'm not seeing a huge need. I'm sure there are a lot of bugs out there that i just haven't run into, but there is nothing breaking the game, and if you want to play, I'd say go for it.

Hmm. Maybe I'll have to break down and try using my X360 controller for this one. In general I have a really hard time trying to use controllers (I'm 45 and too old to come to grips with anything more than two buttons) but this sounds like a good game to try it on.

I haven't had a chance to play the game much yet but is there a prologue somewhere that I missed, or are the events of the intro explained later? For example, who was meeting who and why, what blew up, who was killed, what was the PC doing there, etc?

Yeah, there is a short cut scene in the beginning that explains why you are where you are, and why you are viewed as an outlaw. I think the overall story is kept somewhat vague in the beginning however because nobody really knows for sure what's going on yet.

I am really liking this so far. Anyone avoiding it because it plays better with a controller is missing out IMO.

Where is this cutscene? After the prologue section of the game? Or am I somehow missing it during character creation?

It pretty much IS the prologue of the game.

When the game first starts your wake up and are being chased by these weird spider like creatures. You climb a pile of rubble towards a goddess or at least some supernatural type being and you grab her hand. You emerge from a destroyed building and are taken into custody. The scene shifts then to you being held in captivity and the female templar coming in to interrogtate you, at which point the actual game play starts. At some point the templar explains there was a meeting between the mages and the templars going on in the building that was destroyed I believe. Some of that part of the story is revealed as you are travelling to the first mission checkpoint if I recall correctly.

This is non-spoiler-

The Templars' job is to watch over the mages. The mages are super powerful in magics, but if they do bad stuff (blood magics) or they get possessed by demons they are super dangerous (abominations) so the templars make sure they don't get out of line.

In DA 2 the mages got uber pissed that they were being overly controlled and the head mage blew up the main church (the church is called The Chantry, and they are in charge of the Templars) and this lead to a massive fight between the mages and the templars.

In the moments before DA:I starts, there was a massive meeting trying to sort out the mess that was called by the head of the Chantry. For reasons unknown, it got blown up, killing everyone inside, including the main church lady (like the pope). Everyone, that is, except for you.

Game on.

I don't think I finished DA 2 but I feel lik efrom multiple accounts now that I may need to finish just the main quest of DA2 so I can understand what shappening in DA I.

Borderlands The Prequel was so much more interesting when I understood what was going on and DA I is a much more indepth universe.

Ah ok thanks. I wasn't sure if the explosion at the beginning of DA:I was the same explosion Anders caused in DA:2 or something completely separate.

I am even older, and have a very hard time using a controller because I have over-use injuries to my thumbs. Very disappointed that the game seems to play better on a controller. Is it *really* that much work to design good controls for the PC? I just simply will not play using a controller. Maybe wait for a sale and live with the kb/mouse controls.

You see what you do is, you take the PC Controls from your previous games that people were OK with. Then, you do market research, find the things PC Gamers don't want changed about these controls.
Then, you change those exact things!

This is what my manual says for developing games in 2014...

But again I have to ask, what exactly is so radically different about the controls in DA:I as compared to the previous Dragon Age games? I feel like there must be some huge difference I am not seeing, but I only had to remap a few keys in my Tartarus profile (Space, Control, V) and I could play DA:I the same as before. I don't feel like I need to use a controller, but I might try one anyhow to see how it works.

Some of the tactical mechanics are different for sure, but that's a different matter. The controls themselves seem to be quite similar to the previous games.

Same here, I play mouse/KB and find the controls quite alright, same I felt with DA:O.

W, A, S and D for directions and movement
1 - 0 for skills and items on your action bar
Mouse for looking and movement
And the other keys for your jump, journal, inventory and other similar stuff

I don't believe you would have a problem playing the game right now with kb/mouse controls if you played either of the previous two games that way.

There are a few rough edges I would like to see fixed however. The tactical map view needs to zoom out a LOT farther to really be useful. Target selection is a little strange in tactical mode as well, but that might just be me not quite grasping how it works yet. It almost seems like the game flips back to action mode after your target is killed. In the action combat mode I find that when an enemy moves I tend to be swinging at nothing for awhile. I wish I stayed "locked on" to my target and moved to follow them automatically. I have a feeling this is possible but I might have missed the tutorial cue for that.

Interesting feedback on PC controls from you guys, still waiting for my CE version to arrive but going to give mouse and keyboard a real test out in this game.

I 've played plenty of MMORPGs over the years and both DAO and DA2 so will be interesting to see how good or bad the PC mouse and keyboard controls are.

I probably won't play the game until I see the first patch however.

You will miss a cool game though since bugs aren't that numerous and the game run smooth on ultra with my rig.

I won't be missing out on the game, think of it more as being patient and playing a slightly more polished game with a patch .

I have other games to play as well.

Totally agree!! They should have a way to cycle through targets (both enemy and friendly for reviving) and a better view.

344.75 seems to work good... and its about dayam time.

fixed a lot of my other problems too like disconnecting of monitors on DP.

Also seeing DA:I use about 98% on both GPU's in SLI, which means SLI is working.

very happy with this driver.

BTW, I couldn't select Mantle for my 280X until I completely removed and reinstalled my drivers. AFter that it was selectable and there's a noticeable improvement in frame rate.

I haven't come across a single bug or glitch or any weirdness in about four hours of playing. (unless you count the mantle thing)
