Well, against my better judgement, just purchased the game with a discount from GMG. Hope I dont regret it, but no other games out right now are interesting me. Finished Borderlands Pre-Sequel with one class and contrary to the other BL games, not really feeling it and too frustrated with the game to play TVHM or other classes. So I will give DA:I a try. My resolve to wait for a better sale didnt hold up!! Since it is not on Steam, not really expecting a good sale anytime soon anyway. GMG sent me a voucher for 23% off, but it did not apply to DA:I. Got it for about 15% off.

You're making an ass of yourself. Games from 2004 look like this...

Whereas...

see the difference? Now stop embarrassing yourself.

.. Yes, cherry picking screenshots, from cherry picked games, I guess I could do that if I cared enough. I dont. It is quite obvious that this is something that could run on the last console generation, but whatever.
Sorry Stinky, havent got time for your personal issues.

On an unrelated note.
The story has actually grown on me.. and once I went back and made a caster instead of melee, the combat was manageable too. I guess my bar was set high from Witcher 2 and shadow of mordor .. lets just call this.. mediocore.

We know this is doable :

When is it coming to my AAA titles? One of the only times i have seen CGI facial expressions, eye movement and eyelids done right(cause, well, recorded from actual humans).

Have you tried Shadow Of Mordor? I am not a tolkien nut and the fact that it was in that setting almost put me off it. But what a ride, recommended.

Best thing about the game IMO was everything had a story. All the enemies, plants, creatures. They all had a bit of background you could access in the game. It told the greater story of Mordor and Middle Earth prior to The Lord of The Rings Books/Movies.

It is like any story or genre, scifi, drama, horror or whatever, doesnt really matter, if it is well executed it will put a smile on your face. Shadow Of Mordor was well executed .

What kind of hardware are you running?

I don't think DA:I is the best looking game I have ever seen, but it looks pretty good to me. I am running on a pretty beefy system however. I imagine if things need to be scaled back it might not look as good.

Not scaled back, haswell and 780gtx. I am not blind, I see specific elements in the game that stands out as 'not 2004' .. but alot of stuff do look dated (rifts, summonings, demons, npc's etc).

I might be missing something, but when combat is in real time I can get a big enemy health bar to be at the top middle of my screen

I have to click on the enemy to get this to appear though

is there a way to always have this appear for whatever enemy is currently being targeted without having to click on it? it's not appearing when I'm making use of tab

You have to be missing something. This game is definitely one of the better looking games I've played in a long time. I'm sure there are some FPS games that look better, but I don't think there is an RPG that comes close, without mods.

Surely something is wrong with your setup, or you are just really looking to bash something.

It does not appear that tabbing actually switches your target, but in tactical mode, it shows the target, his status and who is attacking him. In normal mode, it doesn't.

Not really my kind of game I think. Too much of a fighting type game for me. I might pick it up on a sale though.

Gameplay has been solid, the story is intriguing, I REALLY like the concept of the battle map but controls still suck pretty bad. That's definitely the Achilles heel of the game. Hoping I get used to it over time, but DAMN, they didn't optimize (or even think much) of PC players for this title...

Pick one game from 2004 that you think has better visuals than DAI.

Horseshit, plain and simple. Frostbite 3 on its higher settings would melt the 7th gen consoles; hell, even the 8th gen consoles can't run it at higher settings.

Something I saw on a couple of sites today might be worth repeating. Don't spend too much time in the Hinterlands. Gain a few levels and move on to other areas, especially once you get to parts that are too tough to finish at lower levels. I've opened up a couple of new areas and this game really starts to shine when you do.

After having spent about 8 hours playing with only a controller, it is clear that this game was designed with console controls in mind. I guess that's good and bad. It sucks that the kb+m controls are so weak, but the controller interface is really, really good. I find myself using the tactical combat mode at least 75% of the time now and it feels like a Dragon Age game again.

On the contrary the quests in the Hinterlands give you vital experience. It should have been mentioned that Val Royeaux would be an auto-mission, you drop everything and run off. Grrrr. You can spend 15hrs or so in the Hinterlands for XP and solidifying your control of the area.

Cherry picking?

Here's some of my screenshots of the game

I challenge you to find a game from 2004 that looks like that. But don't bother to look because games back then couldn't look like this because the GPU's weren't technically able to render it. I was just calling you out on your BS statement. Just own it and move on.

Here's Morrowind from 2003, generally considered high quality for the era (and it made me upgrade my GPU)

Now you may or may not like the gameplay, that's subjective but there's little denying that DA:I is quite possibly the best looking RPG to ever be released when it comes to graphical fidelity. Witcher 2 may beat it for lighting and textures but of course it's a much smaller game and DA:I has better environmental effects (waves, wind blowing grass and trees etc). I can't wait to see what Witcher 3 looks like because if it looks better than DA:I then awesome.

DAI is a great looking game, but it's definitely not cutting edge as it has to run on last gen consoles as well. Witcher 3 should blow the doors off of it graphically speaking.

Let's hope so.

In all honestly The Witcher 3 looks gorgeous in still shots. As soon as you see it in action you can tell where the engine falls short. The animations are not realistic, the graphics look blocky, and almost fake.

DA:I is probably the most demanding game by Bioware over the decades, normally never really needed a very powerful video card to max settings for their RPG games etc but they have raised the ball game in that regards,Witcher 3 will probably be better and more demanding hardware wise.

Sure, you have that option if you so choose. I imagine if you spend 15 hours in the starting zone you are going to considerably over-leveled for the next few areas. I think my character was level 7 when I decided to look for new areas and even that was more than I needed.

I just mentioned it because I felt like I needed to complete every little side quest before moving on, which is an option of course, but not necessary. I also ran into some areas in the starting zone that were obviously meant to be cleared at a later time.

I would say the Frostbite 3 is cutting edge but also very scalable, which is what is needed to run the game on a variety of hardware.

NWN 2 at least as demanding. I took at least 8 years before I could come close to maxing that. It still might not allow me to max it, but that is due to having big sliders on every setting.
