I think they do. At least, some appear under valuables and some appear under a separate category. ...for some reason.

I've also noticed a weird delay when turning those in, which I assume is some bug. It will dump the first item in your list, then it takes another 5-10, 15 seconds or longer, and the rest of your research items will pop up as being dumped.

I assume there is also a limit that you reach for each specific item that can be turned it? Say I have 3 shadow essence, I've turned them in before and probably got the bonus for that, and now it says that I "have no research items to deposit"

Yes, req mission items can be both valuables and crafting items. Just depends on the mission.

OK, cool....now I need to find a bank, or chest, or some dumpster to stash all this junk. :hmm:

...and I'm such a luddite. You guys have pointed me towards this "Mantle" thing that I am only now reading about and thinking, "this is exactly what I need to be pushing," right?

:hmm:

Yep, definite memory hog. I have 16GB system, with a 280X and 3GB. DA:I is eating up 2.9GB on the GPU and 9-10 GB on system last I checked.

My CPU is shit for this (PII 960 quad), and all cores are near max. I'm running everything at High, not Ultra. I had bad drivers when first loading and testing things, but now everything is running a bit smoother with AMD beta drivers, so I might start bumping things up a bit.

I don't look at FPS in games, though. I just consider whether or not the game is playable for me (this tends to be something near 40+ FPS those times where I have checked for shits). If something stutters once per 10 minutes or more, I really don't give a rat's ass.

I doubt it uses 10GB RAM. On my 16GB DDR4 system 5GB is max, less 8.1 3.8GB max. Sounds like a memory leak somewhere. That quad is bottlenecking everything though. Mantle should help.

From what I read the game could of done with at least another month of testing and bug fixing,I expect the patches we get at some point to help with most of the issues.

I've still not started the game yet, hoping the first patch will be out soon.

Btw the developers did reply yesterday,

The team is hard at work on patching, and we'll provide more information as soon as we can. Unfortunately until the release is finalized I can't provide any more information, and it would be a disservice to you and the team for me to provide incomplete information. I will update you as soon as possible, and appreciate your patience.

I'm still stuck on the crafting recipes for some reason. When you find a merchant that sells crafting schematics for weapons and armor, is there any way to tell what the stats of that item will be before buying it? There is a merchant in Val Royeaux that sells a lot of high dollar schematics (3000+ gold) but there is nothing telling me if that item will be better than what I already have.

The whole crafting part of this game seems really clunky and confusing. I'm still loving the game overall, but that part of it just doesn't seem to be well thought out.

From what I've seen, the schematics tell you a DPS and armor range, and that is about the only differences between them. What stats you get is determined by which resources you use, which you get to choose. Although I have noticed some schematics might use metal instead of leather/cloth, which I believe has different stats available.

I pretty much just focus on the armor and dps of a schematic, the rest is just based on what resources you choose to use.

I see what happened--I wasn't accounting for available memory. Yes, I think I was pushing 2.9GB GPU memory + 4-5GB system memory. (had 7 available with DA running; was actually 12-13 GB available while not running).

Also, switched on Mantle, and reset and ran on two separate occasions. Getting tons of stutter during action and slide show during cutscene--Exact same settings as with DirectX, and wasn't noticing anything before. :\

Guessing this needs some more optimization?

I haven't noticed this yet, but do you see the armor or damage range when in the merchant purchase window, much less the type of materials required to craft them? somewhat odd that you sorta go in blind buying these.

granted it could be there--I only briefly browsed those when wandering around val royeaux for that brief, first trip.

When you go to create weapons and armor from a schematic, you get a list of materials, and those materials all have different properties. The schematics do tell you what types of materials are used in it, and the rest is up to you.

They also tell you what tier of item it is. Tiers 3's are better than 2's.

The magic is all in the raw materials you have. They make a big difference on what you get.

As time goes on, you might start to see that drops are better than what you can make. A lot better. The crafted stuff fills in what you are missing.

Right. But the problem is (for me) when you are actually shopping for schematics, all that is shown is the tier and the crafting slots. There is nothing to tell you the armor has a base rating of 100 for example. It would be nice to know what the minimum rating you will get for the item is.

I guess I need to look at the material properties and see if that is where you can calculate what an item will end up as. Maybe the more crafting slots an item has the better it is?

Yeah, I don't know about that. I really haven't purchased any schematics. Once purchased, when you look at your list in the weapon crafting station, they tell you the range. From what I recall, all tier 1's of the same type of weapon/armor are equal in terms of damage or protection, with possible different types of materials, which can effect the stats available.

The things you really need to look for the most are masterwork and slot items. If it isn't a master work weapon or armor, it won't be as good as what you can find on drops. At least after level 10ish, but the slot pieces seem to be good for a longer time.

exactly. it doesn't show you the range of damage or defense, or relative property of the upgrades when buying them. So it's all very blind. Crafting them is different, because you see everything.

I think at this point, you have to go by name...which pretty much sucks.

Though I've gotten a bit further
Finds Skyhold...4 hours later, still in Skyhold, unlocking shite. ....holy shite!
.

Anyway, crafting does open up quite a bit in terms of options, but there is still a lack of detail towards what is what, when you are out in the field

The dialogue for some party members is hilarious. Iron Bull vs Dorian (both gay):

- Need someone to polish your footsies?

- Watch where you are pointing that thing! (pause, I meant your weapon!)

- When was the last time you polished your staff Dorian?

I've gone through a number of areas and FPS hovers between 50-60 FPS on this 780 Ti GHz and 5930K. Pretty well optimised I'd say.

Yeah I really dislike the lack of detail in general. Need more tooltips explaining what things mean. Even something as simple as a tooltip when you hover over a skill, which the game currently lacks. You have to open up your character profile and go to your skills to remind yourself all the details instead of just hovering over the skill in the quickbar and having a tooltip pop up like every other game since the early 2000's.

Have you been to Val Royeaux yet?

You don't get
Iron Bull
in The Fallow Mire. You're probably talking about
Sky Watcher, who is an Avaar, and an agent. Not a playable character.

I ask if you've been to Val Royeaux yet because
you don't get any new companions until you do.

Yes, req mission items can be both valuables and crafting items. Just depends on the mission.

Name one req mission that requests valuables outside of the mission:
Artifact Requisition in the Wastes
.

I've done all of the requisitions and that was the only one. Unless you consider the initial req missions in the Hinterlands for
Ferelden locks and decorative gems
to be valuables. Then there would be only three.

Keep playing. The story really starts to pick up when you get a little further into the game. I think the beginning zones are there to get you familiar with the game mechanics and how many different things there are to do. I have about 20 hours into the game, and the story didn't really start getting interesting until a couple of hours ago. I'm not going to spoil anything, but the story does get better as you move along.
