I thought it was a known fact that it was hurried: They had a 4th section of the city and had planned extra places outside the city - we know this from resources in the game. These areas were cut to ship "on time."

But does that mean EA pressured them to release early or did they make a judgment call that shoring up issues with the other parts of the game wasn't with the development time? I think to many people are to quick to assume that EA forces a game out the door just because some content was cut. There could be dozens of reasons. I am guessing that Briowarer has a lot more control over their projects then most studios and their (EA's) real issues are with their forced annual franchises.

Tyke is a game play video where the developer shows pause and switching to other party member to give commands. Don't have link in front of me. ..

Whether it was "rushed" or not, I dont really know, but DAII just seemed shallow and uninspired from the beginning, trying to bring out a game with a minimum of time, effort and resources. That is one definition of "rushed" I suppose.

But I think of "rushed" more like KOTOR 2, deep, fantastic gameplay and plot until the very end, when it just suddenly ended and one was left with the feeling "WTF, that's it? Where is the rest of it??" It was like the quality, depth, and content of the game just suddenly dropped off at the end. DAII just felt like that thru the whole game, although to be honest, I enjoyed the game somewhat, and didnt feel ripped off because I got it for 5.00 on sale.

Hopefully DA Inquisition will go back to the level of the first game, but I am only hopeful, not confident, that it will. I know some will disagree, but IMO, Bioware/EA has not put out a great game since ME1, maybe ME2, so I am skeptical.

100% agree.

The trailer was about as exciting as watching a sloth climb up a tree.

Its certainly a very pretty looking game. The tag at the end of the trailer kinda clinches the type of game that DAI will be though. 'Exclusive Content for the Xbox One.'

So long, Dragon Age, we barely got to know you.

The story may be good, and I'm locked into it for that...but for everything else, yeah.

'Exclusive Content for the Xbox One.'

You might want to double check that.

The 'theatrical' trailer was alright, it had some neat scenes but ultimately it's too broad and dumb to really get anything from. It's built for people who haven't played the original IP, as most trailers like that are.

The gameplay of battling the dragon was pretty sweet I thought. Switching from character to character seemed very fluid - the only thing that had me wondering was that it seemed like they operated fairly independently of one another. It looked like the party may not have had a defined tank or healer (looked like archer/rogue/mage/and a barb/war) but I hope it doesn't degenerate into a GW2 like experience where characters don't really have the ability to support one another. I'm guessing tanks and healers just make for a less appealing video and were not featured lol.

You might want to take a look at Dragon's Dogma. After that presentation I think DAI's combat is going to be exactly like that. The dragon fight looked 90% to what encountering a dragon in the wild was like in that game.

Anyone else concerned they only hit alpha two weeks ago? They are shipping in less than 4 months now. Not much time to go from alpha -> beta -> gold if the game is as large as advertised, even with a large team, especially if you consider distribution time.

Considering the DA2, ME3 criticism and right off the heels of the B4 launch. I'd feel better if they let this one slip a little.

I dunno, after seeing more footage, I'm not particularly psyched. I liked the open nature of it, but the E3 showings have been horrible. Overdone spell graphics, limited spells/abilities per character (360 controller limitation?), poor animation transitions, and some really, really bad dialogue. Still buying it, but my hype meter is way down now.

I am leaving this game on my list but I am ready to cancel if it doesn't look that great. It comes out on the same day as shadow of mordor.

It is probably the game I am most looking forward to, except for maybe the new Borderlands adventure game, but it certainly will not be a day one purchase after seeing what they did with ME3 and DA2. Honestly, the trailers I have seen did not impress me that much, but I am more interested in the core gameplay, and you cant really tell much about that from a short clip. I will definitely wait for reviews and a lot of feedback from the forums, and probably wait for a price cut, since I have a big backlog of games already.

Same here. Also, Fifa 15 and DriverClub for the PS4 come out around the same time. Guess it depends on what type of game I'm in the mood to play.

Hopefully this will be a step forward, not a huge step backwards like DA II was.

Ever since the Marilyn Manson trailer for DA1...the series went down hill. I loved da1 but I can't help but feel even that was rushed at some point. It's like the last third of the game was scrapped. Remember the " end fight" in da1? I remember thinking wtf is this shit. It had no resemblence to the rest of the game.

This carried over to da2. Felt like call of duty with random enemies popping up all over the place only to get one shot. Like fighting ants. Uninspiring.

I think they will improve over da2 for sure but lets be real about this series. It's good but not great..at least in my humble opinion.

All that being said, I'm still a sucker for rpgs. I won't be able to resist picking this up cause I'm a sucker.

Part of the issue was also it was Mike Laidlaw's first game as lead director. Some designers on the team left who had been around since Baldur's Gate because they didnt like the way the franchise was going.

Double edge sword here, agreed. Delay it if necessary to give it the necessary polish. Delay it too long, and it goes head to head with Witcher 3 and pulverized.

I think you're spot on here as both the comments from Laidlaw and the trailers they've released all suggest, at least to me, that they're striving for a combat system that resembles the combat from the Witcher series. Unfortunately, however, the footage I've seen thus far is a weak imitation and I question whether the new and improved BioWare has the wherewithal to compete with the CD Projekt Red in the atmosphere/story-telling department. Also, although Frostbite is an impressive engine, still think Witcher 3 looks superior.

I despise Laidlaw and am saddened that he is still associated with the series; I had thought he had been demoted following the shambolic release and reception of DA:2 but I fundamentally disagree with his philosophy and vision for the gameplay and narrative of the series. Although I'm sure the executives at EA like what he peddles, since it is more orientated to casual and console gamers, he ruined DA:2 and I fear he will ruin DA: Inquisition.

Luckily fans of traditional RPGs don't have to rely on BioWare anymore. I'd rather play another game of the new Divinity game than buy the hack-n-slash drek peddled by Laidlaw et. al..

November is still 3 months off from February though. And most of a games sales are in the first 10 weeks so there's not much risk of lost sales here IMO.
