I've noticed Origin's been giving away freebies on a regular basis.......which I suppose is a good thing, but I still prefer Steam.

It's also perfectly within my budget.

Definitely worth picking up, DAO is a great big fantasy RPG.

And yeah, the free games are a nice campaign by EA. They don't have the killer app that Steam had in HL2 to gain traction but this is a good way to encourage people to simply get into the program more and become accustomed to it which is really good for mindshare.

For all who are interested, Origin accepts codes from disc releases of some games, so if you have them sitting around you might as well activate them on Origin as an alternate source. I know Dragon Age 1 & 2 work as well as ME2. Also, and I don't know if this was the same for everyone, my older Bioware/EA login that was used for early Mass Effect and Dragon Age were migrated to my Origin account so the DLC carried over from Mass Effect.

Food for thought. If you have a stack of EA games released since Mass Effect, it wouldn't hurt to try and enter the codes.

And I am wondering if it compares at all to any of the old rpg games from Bioware. I have seen some of the beginning and it seems actually somewhat basic and console like. More or less my guess is it receives lots of praise because it was one of the few rpg like games around that time.

It's no Balder's Gate, but it is still a decent RPG. Especially, for the price of free. The controls and difficulty can be as streamlined as you want. There are a couple glaring issues with design though (a blatant, and always present ! in some places that looks like a quest, but is really a "Hey! Buy this DLC and then you get a quest."

I wouldn't call it that, yes it's a lot worse than Origins, but it's OK, still fun to complete the game once.


DAOrigins is a great game, gameplay and graphics looked a little dated back in 2009, so I would expect that to be a problem for some playing it for the first time now,
but nice of EA to give another GREAT free game (well, it's not the complete content, the DLCs are not included but OK), I think I have 10 free games on my origin account...

Huh Did not know that, as I do have DA1 and DA2. I may add them later

graphics are ok, some parts of the game are really well put together, but it's not the most impressive game in terms of art, and even in 2009 it used outdated tech/engine, other games from 2009 (and maybe even 2006-2007) are far more impressive when it comes to graphics,

still the game as a whole is great, and I love it.
