Playing through Mass Effect right now, probably going to go for The Witcher next... I have a sizable back catalog that I already own, but I am anxious to put my GPU to good use.

Yeah, this is THe game I've been looking forward to this year.

Looks like a modern Baldur's Gate. Totally buying it.

Anyone who complains that the graphics aren't shiny enough needs to go back to Crysis.

I don't care about graphics, as long as they are passable. NWN2 was perfectly fine for me, I never understood the fuss about its "poor" graphics.

Looking at video posted in the OP, it's just awesome. But different people like different things. I don't expect everyone to love this game and don't consider everyone who hates this game to be a idiot, so my take is this is not the type of game you would like and you should look at other games.

:Q you talking to me or brblx?

i think he's agreeing that oblivion's voice over talent (all two guys and one girl) was lacking and disagreeing with the other things i said.

i don't have a problem with this game not looking good, i just have a problem with the fact that it looks worse than their previous title. i don't get why some stuff like player models and faces look like they're from jade empire or kotor.

maybe they "simplified" the graphics in order not to make it a resource hog like Crysis. that way its available to a wider spectrum of PCs, plus it'll run better on the aging consoles.

personally, i think the game looks good, there is more to how the game looks than just character models. dont forget most BG loyalists will play this game as top down. in any case, i only bought one game in 2009, this will be the second.

Probably more the latter and to save time and development costs. It would have been nice though to build it for today's high-end PCs and provide plenty of scalability so that consoles and lesser PCs could handle it.

That being said though, I am looking forward to this game and it may well be one of the few full price gaming purchases I make this year.

Well in the trailer they could aim; but in the actual game i suspect we can't aim at specific locations

I'll be interested to read the reviews, in particular any of the reviewers that fail to mention the dlc scheme can be identified as shilling for the company against the consumers.

What are you talking about? (I'm spoiler-averse and haven't watched the trailer through.)

Does anyone know what graphics engine they used for this? I'm surprised they didn't just use the Unreal 3 engine, they already had it licensed for the mass effect series and everything.

In-house "Eclipse" engine. Optimized for moddable RPGs (I believe they said almost the entire combat system is exposed to scripting) with mass battles and cinematics.

I preordered CE version of DA since I love RPGs ,I'm still having great fun in Risen so will need to make sure I have finished that game first,at least I have a month before DA arrives.

Could of sworn the title of this thread called for less whining about DLC but you just had to bring it into this one as well. And I'm sure the reviewers that don't care about the DLC are all out to get the consumers and shilling for the company!!

The battle size might be a large component of the graphical design choices. You can't do very large battles with every model having crysis or even UE3-level graphics with current engines and GPUs.

If you look at other games that do large numbers of units on-screen at once like Mount&Blade or Empire: Total War, they have to really cut down on the model quality to make the game playable.

For Dx9 in particular, this was one of the major limitations that the MS devs were pointing out that they were trying alleviate with Dx10. In Dx9, there are a lot of of API calls that would have to be repeated individually for each object, causing the API overhead to grow at a superlinear rate compared to the number of objects on screen. In Dx10, many of these calls were made into batch calls that could be used with multiple objects at once.

if they don't mention it they are doing a shitty job as a reviewer just like those that forget to mention drm schemes that some games require.

The graphics will be the only downside of DA-O. Working on a game for 9 years, BLIZZARD style!

Desslock said he played it for 80+ hours, and experienced no CTD bugs, and one very minor glitch that did not affect gameplay at all.
