My backup system:

Atlon X2 6000+ @ 3.2ghz / 9600GSO 768mb DDR3 ( 750 / 970 ) @ 1920x1080p maxed in game settings / 2x AA / 16x AF smooth as butter.

Didn't bother checking the fps but it was very smooth.
That's a relief That SSAA must be hell on performance in that case.

Is the engine horribly inefficient? From the graphics I've seen I was assuming any modern machine should run the game fully maxed out. If not then this is a huge fail on Bioware's part.

Don't think so. With 8xMSAA at 1680*1050, I'm pushing 120FPS most of the time. With 4xSSAA it's playable, like 40fps on average. With 8xMSAA fps dip below the 30's. 4xSSAA is nothing to sneeze at and you can't use it in any real modern games.

8xMSAA

8xSSAA

4xSSAA

You can obviously see how SSAA simply makes things blurrier Does tell us it's working properly

how so?

Also, I love how you can disable the intro's. In under 10 seconds you can launch the game and be playing! Also, I'm just now getting a bit of humor out of my party members squabling with each other.

They're not loading for me either.
Can't wait to get the game- should have sprung for faster shipping

Just as in KOTOR, all NPCs in conversations are voiced, while PC lines are not voiced. There are several reasons: first, it would be redundant with the line you just read as text; second, it would severely limit player RP and control; third, it would be prohibitively resource-intensive (three races, two sexes... you do the math, and that's assuming no distinction between the origins so that the street thug dwarf talks just like the noble).

Oblivion had 4 voices in the entire game, 2 female and 2 male. It really made the game shitty IMHO but they could do that here. I know in Oblivion it applied to NPC, but the fact they had 4 people doing the exact same voices for hundreds of characters was ugh.

Game doesn't seem to be working for a lot of people, the Steam preloads seem bugged and won't run. It doesn't help that Bioware doesn't have a DAO support forum and all the help threads are being deleted by moderators without any explanation. Really driving me insane right now.

<sarcasm>I'm shocked, SHOCKED that Steam is having technical troubles that are locking people out of their own games. Shocked!</sarcasm>

This is par for the course with Steam.

PC-9.5
PS3-9.0
XBOX 360- 8.5

He talks about how the PC version is by far the best in the video review. Finally, a real pc game!

How is everyone purchasing this? Recently I have been only getting games from D2D and steam because of some good deals. But if I'm spending full price I might just get it at best buy.

I played about two hours as a rogue. I like it overall and the graphics are good enough to get the job done without needing an overly powerful pc. I'm using a 8800GTS card, q6600 @ 3ghz, 4GBram, windows 7 , 1680x1050 and had no fps problems.

The one issue I have is the combat. It is VERY fast. You can pause it with the spacebar and give new orders, but the time between actions is so quick that to control 4 party members is a lot of work. There is scripting you can do to customize your parties actions but I haven't had a lot of time to look at it.

One thing the installer does that I did not like , it installs the updater as a windows service. I see no need for that.

What kind of DRM does this game have?

An extremely restrictive form known as Steam. It often glitches out and prevents people from playing their lawfully owned games for several hours at a time, then randomly starts working again. People are already having trouble with it, but there is no consumer backlash against this DRM because the community fawns over the company that created it.

Well, I was hoping for a non Steam option tbh. I don't mind buying games, but I do mind having to put up with silly restrictions on things I've legally purchased.

I was going to buy this retail but I'm not sure if I really care that much about boxes anymore. I might just dl on steam when I get home, does anyone know if this requires steam for the retail copy?

Asside from DAO not working for me, it seems like most of the pre-order/collectors edition keys that STEAM provided don't even work right now...which makes spending $15 on the collectors edition a waste...

Oh yeah Bioshock was the worst fiasco on STEAM, I remember almost nobody could run the game with a 64bit OS until a patch came out the day later.

Q9300, 4850 512mb, 4gb DDR2 800 for short.

Awesome, thanks!

Glad I didn't upgrade for this. I sold my gaming PC in august and pieced together a budget rig and it sounds like it'll be perfect when I fire it up tonight @ 1920x1200:

Athlon II 245 @ 3.4 GHz on a cheap mobo with no voltage control, 4 GB of budget DDR2, and an overclocked 4890. Wohoo, native resolution with at least some AA are in my future.
I almost picked up an i7 combo and a 5870, phew.

I would really prefer not to use Steam, but if I must there is no point buying an actual copy, as it costs more (gas and taxes).

Looking forward to getting home and checking this game out, even if it is only for an hour or so tonight.

I ordered from Amazon. $43 for the standard edition, I believe (something like that, under $50) and release day shipping.
