Two random screens, but also a shot of the video options for you guys: Also, I think FRAPS might screw up the screenshots a bit. It does look better in game. There is also no 16:10 support as you might know. Only 16:9.

16:10 is definitely supported, as I've got 1680x1050 running on my bro's comp and 1920x1200 on mine.

Game looks pretty good IMO, especially when in motion. It's hard too . Found myself hitting the reload button quite a few times while playing tonight.

Some discouraging impressions over at [H]Forums. Hopefully reading them doesn't bias me towards agreeing before giving it a fair shot.

I mean, I'll check again...but it was the same way in the character creator for me.

It is hard.

I set 1920x1200 in the char creator too, so it is possible.

What is the combat like in this? I haven't tried it yet but the screens make it look like a single player MMO which would be lame as hell. Do you have a lot of control over your party? Can you pause and set skills to use for everyone like in BG? If it has idiotic allies like in NWN2 or ME then I'll be kinda pissed, in ME I eventually just let my allies die then killed everything myself, they were that worthless. I'd much rather have a team based combat system with slightly less "immersion" than a stupid 1st/3rd person game where your allies are total morons that you have barely any control over.

It is a single player RPG, and was advertised as such. Why would you expect anything different?

You can pause, set skills, etc like BG. Using tactics you can give your AI teammates some guidelines to follow when you're not controlling them, but for the most part you'll be micro'ing all 4 of your party members. I got about 6 hours of play in yesterday (stayed up wayyy too late) and didn't run into any situations where it was possible to "cowboy" my way through a group of mobs on my main char. Micro the party and live, or get ready to hit your reload button.

I think quite a few of the guys at [H] were expecting a "casual" RPG like Mass Effect since it's also from Bioware. In ME, as VashHT also pointed out, you could pretty much cruise your way to victory with your main char no matter what the situation was. In DA, I'm finding this isn't the case at all. It's a slow, dialogue heavy single player RPG with BG type combat. If that sounds like something that you're into, then disregard those negative impressions and pick up the game.

Update: they reopened the original forums because the new ones are broken.

Yup, although it's apparently both easier and easier to just control your character on the console versions. But even there you still need tactics.

Well, I knew it was a SP game only, I just haven't watched any videos or anything so I wasn't entirely sure how the combat system worked. Great to hear you can pause and set up skills to use and stuff, that's exactly what I was hoping for.

Escapist has their review up.
Dragon Age: Origins is the game you've been waiting for all of your life.

Allow me to qualify that: If you enjoy fantasy role-playing games and prefer gameplay over graphics and story over style, then Dragon Age: Origins is the game you've been waiting for all your life.

Been playing for a few hours now. Liking it pretty much, really does remind me of the good old BG days, only thing I miss a little bit is the BG humor Graphics are pretty bad btw, was expecting more, but I can live with it for sure. Biggest con would be EA publishing it, which means I support both Bioware and EA

I'm running dual HD 5870's with a q6700 at 3,4GHz, but I can tell you right now, 8xSSAA is a little to much 8xMSAA is no problem at all though ... Going to try 4xSSAA, will post some screenies too ...

Is the engine horribly inefficient? From the graphics I've seen I was assuming any modern machine should run the game fully maxed out. If not then this is a huge fail on Bioware's part.

Plugged in my code for the Dragon Armor, and gave me a an error message that the code was invalid; but under that message was a message which said the code was successfully redeemed. Nothing's show up in my downloadable content, so I hope my code didn't get eaten up. Their social website SUCKS.

My backup system:

Atlon X2 6000+ @ 3.2ghz / 9600GSO 768mb DDR3 ( 750 / 970 ) @ 1920x1080p maxed in game settings / 2x AA / 16x AF smooth as butter.

Didn't bother checking the fps but it was very smooth.
