I want to upgrade to this mobo, and i am wondering

1. how does the onboard sound compare to a SB LIVE!

2. wats that smart card reader?

Sound is the same as an SBLive.

Never really figured out what the smart card reader was although I like the 2 USB ports.

1. The SB Live does sound better IMHO; this will depend on the quality of your speakers as well (if you decide to go this route, place the card in pci slot 4 or 5.
2. The smart card reader is basically worthless; similar to card reader for AMEX. It WILL NOT work as a smart media or compact flash reader.

The sonud is good, quality, i think it *MIGHT* have a problem with playing many sounds at once, sometimes in tribes2, i dont hear all the sounds that are happening, or it could be a problem with EAX
The smart card reader it for reading "Smart" credit cards theat have programmable info on them, its worthless to 95% of people, but the 2 usb with it are a redeeming feature.
Its a very good, stable motherboard

The base off of my CMedia onboard sound fades in and out sometimes when I'm using the Media Player. I'm thinking of putting my SB Live Plat back in.
