Dragon Plus and Crucial Memory Problem

I just recently received a Soyo Dragon Plus a few days ago. It seems to be a great board so far except for one big problem. I've got two, 256MB sticks of Crucial PC2100 memory. However the problem is that I can only use one memory module at a time. If I use both, i.e. populating both bank 0 and 1, I can't get past the memory check during BIOS initialization. I can interchange either module and install them in any bankk 0, 1 or 2 I just can't use them together. I've tried messing with the memory timings in the BIOS and setting the BIOS to load Fail-Safe settings all to no avail. Also I seem to already have the most recent bios, BA1. So I'm wondering, has anyone else seen or heard of problems with Crucial or Micron memory on this board? Could this be a hardware problem on the board itself?

Thanks for any input.

By the way, one thing I did notice in Tom's Hardware Guide Review he used 2 X 128 MB CL 2.0 Micron and 1 X 256 MB CL 2.0 Micron. I am using their CL 2.5 stuff. I wonder if that would make some difference and the fact that he never tested more than 256 MB of memory at a time.

I have a friend who has a 256MB stick in two of the DIMM slots, both are Crucial, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

Do you have the DIMMs pushed into the slots all the way? The problem you are having is one that I've had before, but I simply didn't have the DIMM in there all the way. Maybe try it in DIMM slot 3 instead of two?

Good luck!

No prob with mine. 2x Crucial 256MB PC2100 in DIMMs 0 and 1.
Have you got the latest BIOS? I had a slight prob until I flashed 'er.

Ya that definately sounds like some kind of hardware problem cause I've got two sticks of 256 meg crucial ddr that are in turbo mode and at a 140 fsb and I haven't had any problems at all.
Have you tried removing everything but the video card and ram? If you try that and its still no go it sounds like you have a bad memory bank.

This will require some more in-depth investigation, I guess, but it's good to know it SHOULD work fine with the memory I have. I already have it down to bare bones (cpu, mem and vid card) so I will try reflashing the bios in case I am wrong in my current bios version, buy a couple new crucial modules from Best Buy (I have another comp that could use them anyway) and as a last resort RMA the board. Thanks for the help!

I'm using a DFI AD72 SN that refuses to run on Crucial. After testing 4 sets of modules, they gave up and refunded my money. I'm running Kingston now..rock solid stable.

Check ur memory with memtest. One of them may be defective. I have regular dragon and I can run two stick of 256 without any problem. But when I added the third stick of 256 there was error all over the place. I know its not the ram because when I test them one at a time or in pairs there is no errors!

Kishkumen -

Buy another 256 module say from Best Buy on sale now. Put the new one in with either of the 2 sticks you have now.
Swap it to the next one. If on either one it fails to work/post send that one back to Crucial as defective....
If you still have the problem send both the orginial sticks back to Crucial and get one new one.
This would be the best way to tell.

In order to run the Soyo with all three DIMM banks populated, you need to use registered RAM and back down on memory timings.

Not true. Just built my Dragon+ system the other night.

I currently have 3 sticks of unregistered Crucial PC2100 256MB CL2.5 DDR running in "Turbo" mode with 145MHz FSB.

Have run BurnIn for 18 collective hours... 0 problems. I'm impressed!
