Dragon Quest VIII Help

So I'm at the part of the game where I'm supposed to fight Dhoulmagus for the first time. From the FAQ's I've read...I should be around level 30...WTF. I've made it this far in the game without any real problems and I'm only level 23. Well I've spent like 4-5 hours leveling up (now around 28) and trying to buy new weapons and I STILL can't beat him. Why such a huge incline in difficulty? Am I doing something wrong? I"m trying to level up by camping down in the part before Dhoulmagus and fighting over and over (using whistle) and then using the spring to restore HP/MP.

HELP! THIS IS TAKING FOREVER AND EVEN AT LVL 28 HES STILL IMPOSSIBLE!

It looks like you're just starting to realize the reason this game sucks.

You need to level yourself up enough that two of your characters have some sort of heal-all ability. Jessica has one that takes no mp, but doesn't do that much... you have to level up her lust abilities... or whatever the hell it's called... Angelo can get the magic one pretty fast, too.

Basically, you have to use both multi-heal commands every round... attack with main character and Yangus. You can try and raise their tension two times, but if you do three, Dhoulmangus will remove all effects and you'll have wasted your time. If you get to a point where everyone is at full health, still don't attack with Angelo. Restore MP. Just keep on the cycle of two attack, two heal for the entire battle, be bored to death for 20 minutes, then 15 more hours into the game you'll just want to know when the hell its over.

From this point on, EVERY boss battle is going to be this way. The game is ridiculous. Every non-boss battle can be completed the exact same way, while every boss battle requires you to simply try and stay alive while trying to taking as many jabs here and there as you can.

It's a wasted effort to try and level yourself past 50, but until you start getting to level 70 and stuff you won't have an easy time.

I gave up and used cheat codes. I simply don't have the time for leveling up anymore, at least in this slow manner.

heh after reading this post I ain't sure if I want to continue . Seems like it will be hard. I am on level 9 so I ain't far in the game.

beat up your ps2 with a baseball bat.It will make you grow stronger

yeah there are two battles where you have to level up for. The damn first boss calamari, and the first dalmagus one. After that you should be well-rounded enough to last.
