ok, just loaded visio 2000. how do u get it to search and diagram the network?

Okay okay, I have to step in here!

No! Visio doesn't map networks automatically. Since no one seems to want to follow the link given I will paraphrase,

"The new LAN MapShot? network diagramming software works with Microsoft® Visio® 2000.."

I have seen programs that do both the discovery as well as the mapping of the networks that are *very* sophisticated that will map LAN's WAN's even portions of the internet. They are mucho dinero. This seems to be a fairly sophisticated yet simple LAN discovery tool that utilizes Visio as it's reporting tool.

MS Visio does offer Microsoft Visio® Enterprise Network Tools as a $500 add-in. Fluke's LAN MapShot? is $400 with a 14-day trial available. I didn't see any evaluation version of MS's add-on.

Visio 2002 (XP) will do active discovery of your netowrk.

Visio Enterprise Edition will do network discovery and diagramming. Not Visio standard or Visio pro. There's a few other tools that will do it, but what do you expect to get OUT of it? Just a drawing? NetViz is a pretty cool too - Again, it's expensive.
