2 on raid 0 - Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD

Other than the above edit to your parts, I'd add a top-of-the PCC&P PSU.

Somebody who knows better than I can say what great monitor to add, and it'll need a cd/dvd burner too

Yeah, but cray was just the original supercomputer. Now supercomputers are measured in "Crays" or orders of magnitude of the cray computer. I think I'll take one of those.

Something badass (SLI/FX-55/the works) with good looking watercooling. And a nice looking case (probably another V1000 or V2000, now that I've got this upsidedown mobo thing setup I can't live without it).

As long as were dreaming, I'd get:

Tyan K8WE w/ dual Opterons 252's
4 gigs of ram
2 - BFG 6800GT OC's
1 - LSI 320-2X scsi raid cntrl
6 - Fuj. Mas 15k 75g drives
Zippy 700w power supply in a CM Stacker.
Audigy2 Zs
1.44 floppy (need those bios updates)
2 - Nec3520's
2 - Dell 2001 LCD's

That's about it, I wouldn't want to break the Bang for the Buck ratio ...

Regards,
Jose

Dual Opteron 252s with 8 gigabytes of RAM coupled with a 6800 Ultra Extreme (it's a workstation board) and a PC P&C 510 with 3x 36 15k Cheetahs in RAID 5.

This would be running Server 2003, of course.

I've heard that while opterons are great multitaskers , they wouldn't offer a significant benefit in gaming and such. If so, why do people keep suggesting them in "Dream PC" threads? I was under the assumption that you would simply be getting A64 performance and a bunch of features that you probably won't use.

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2X 512MB OCZ PC4000 Gold VX
X850XT
Maxtor Atlas 15K II 36GB
Storage drive 200GB+
ATI HDTV Wonder
OCZ PowerStream 520W
Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW
Overclock it

I just realized this is my rig. Yeah, you can get better, but the only thing that would give a signifigant performance increase is SLi, and it has a beef with widescreen, so it just doesn't work. An FX-55 is just a waste to me, I mean it's no fun to overclock if you spent $1000 on something. With $200, it's different. Venice cores are coming out in a few weeks too, so it is like shooting yourself in the foot with that one. (Yeah, I know you have an unlimited budget.)

Same here except I'd use a Codegen S-201 case (see sig), a PC Power and Cooling 950W PSU, a DigitalAudio sound card with studio monitors, and I'd have four Sony 24" CRTs for my displays.

no offense, but you are spending about a $1000-$1500 for only a couple extra % performance gain....kind of a waste IMO

I chose the CPU against the std 3xxx+ series as it will be the best for reducing bottlenecks from the video cards, and for the bragging rights.
thats the only thing that i can comment on in the cost->performance ratio
i didnt go with 2 ultras as i think they run too hard and hot for me and have caused problems with the asus board in the past.
