Purvin,
People's perceptions are amazing. Dreamcast WAS NOT a flop in the U.S., SEGA just ran out of money to build the loss leading hardware. (Well OK it was a flop in their home country Japan which had alot to do with it!)
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
The Sega Dreamcast is the fastest selling video game system in US history.
That's what really makes it so sad. The system basically flopped in Japan but it did great in the US. They sold over 5 million systems in 16 months. That is faster than the Atari 2600, the NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation and yes, the PS2 as well.
How do you consider a system a flop if it sold faster than those systems? The problem is when you sell 10 million systems (worldwide) at a loss of around $100 per system it takes it's toll when your company has been in the red for 4 consecutive years. Not to mention that everyone had written the system off before it even shipped hurt 3rd party development.
