Can anyone whose had a fair bit of experience playing the racing games currently available for Dreamcast care to highlight the better ones and perhaps state the pros and cons of each. It seems like the DC has so many good looking racing games, I don't have a clue which one to get.
I like very realistic physics with a nice car selection. I've heard F355(albeit only with one car), some street racing game(MBS or MBR or something), and perhaps Tokyo Xtreme 2 are supposed to be good?
I've read lots of internet reviews, but would like your opinions.
Thanks for any help!

F335 Challenge is the most realistic racing game you could buy. However it DOES only have one car (the F355) and you have to use the incar view, but if realism is what you are going for, it is the best.

Should be pretty cheap now too.

And Test Drive Le Mans is unbelievable. It is so awesome its not even funny Pretty good amount of cars, lots of tracks, unbelievable tracks, it also should be pretty cheap.

F355 is perhaps the most technically challenging driving game ever made. you need mad skills to conquer that game...excellent graphics and lots of replayability...just be prepared for a high learning curve in that one...

MSR is a ok game...i dont see what all the hoopla behind it was...i thought it was going to be this kickass free city racing game but so far all ive done in the game is race thru lil small mundane circuits within the city....the AUDIO is downright BAD!!!! worst driving music ever....graphics are topnotch...especially the timezone settings...

have yet to play Tokyo Extreme 2.

Sega GT is good but the control sucks...at least for me i think it does...

Vanishing Point...good engine...crap control...controls much better using the digital controller as opposed to the analog stick.

Tokyo Xtreme 2 is pretty good. You basically buy cars and race around highways in Tokyo. As you drive around you can flash your lights at other racers and compete in mini races with them for cash, which you use to buy other cars and upgrades and such. There are no official cars, but they all just happen to look like real-life cars

I'm a PC sim racer at heart(Grand Prix Legends, Nascar4, etc), so I like a challenge. Besides, what could be harder than GPL!

I kind of like Gran Turismo when I first saw that a long time ago, but now I'm just getting a DC for the first time just to pass the time of day and I want at least a couple really good racing games.
I don't mind long or short races, and I like the idea of having to soupe up your car. So imports or domestics or purebred racers don't matter to me. Whatever is the most fun!

all of those are good
sega gt, to turn, you have to use emergency brake. gamefaqs and initial d hipped us to this
txr2 is excellent--i have the others, but txr2 is the one i've finished TWICE and also bought the japanese version and am planning on buying the american release of zero to play on friend's ps2 (they kept the license plates! )
but i'm currently obsessed with vanishing point--play it every night when i get off work--but it's frustrating sometimes
you have to start off with the choice of ford mustang, explorer, or ranger--one of the secret cars is a mercury sable station wagon, and i suspect another is dodge caravan
plus the soundtrack is all trance

Test Drive: Le Mans is fantastic.

Don't forget about Gran Turismo 2...with a $5 BleemCast disc you can play it on your DC (and it's even better than with the orig. PS)

I was gonna suggest Looney Toons Space Race and Wacky Races but you want realism.

I like MSR. I'll have to obtain a copy of Tokyo Xtreme 2 from my "sources."

Steve, is the MSR really a great game?
I heard it was unique in how you earned points and moved on.
Right now, I guess it's between:

F355
Le Mans
Tokyo Extreme 2
Metropolis Street Racer

Any others?

I've owned Test Drive: Le Mans and it was pretty good. The races are long (not 24 hours long, at least ) and the graphics are good. I couldn't really get the controls down though. I'd rate it almost as good as NFS Porsche Unleashed (PC) or Hot Pursuit.

Hmm, interesting, it and F335 are the few games that I can get the controls down to a point where it seems natural playing the game

<< speed devils is alot of fun. Looks really good too. >>

I forgot about Speed Devils! You should be able to find the first one for $20.00 new, and it is a great arcade-style racing game. Another one I forgot to mention was RUSH 2049.

Are any of those simulation type games though, or more arcade racers?
I think I'd lean alot more towards a simulation type game. F355 sounds like the best sim game, but what's in second that has more cars?

Unless you're really into race car driving, don't get the F355. It's too realistic it's a pain to the ordinary gamer.

If you just want something fun, I'd recommend crazy taxi.

Oh, I'm really into real car racing. I do it for half my living.
I'm wondering if there's anything better or at least as good as F355 except with more cars. Looks like F355 is leading the pack so far!

Wow, I can't believe how hardly anyone has mentioned Vanishing Point. That by far is the most fun game with still a lot of realism behind it. Graphics are very nice, sounds are great...

I have all of the previous games as mentioned but the only one that gets played is VP. (although we do get good 4-player games of Looney Toons Space Race going at times...)
