So what's the deal with the PS2 emulation? I have to buy the Bleem disk that's made for the particular game?

The Dreamcast can only do PS1 emulation, not PS2. It does seem to be the best way to play emulators without worrying about hooking up a computer to your TV. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it weren't for the controllers.

Fenguin, if you don't like the DC controller, there is actually an adapter that allows you to use the PS1 Shock Analog Controller...ADAPTER

Sorry, I meant PS1. But I still don't understand what the Bleem disk associated with each game is for. Can I play ANY PS1 game on a DC or just the 3 games listed on the emulation website?

If i wanted to back up my games to protect them will ALL dc play backups or only ones made before a certain date? And what dates are those?

I have not heard of any US gray colored DCs not being able to play "backups". There may have been 1 special edition black dreamcast that may not have.

DC is the best bargain platform outthere. Big difference from PSX/N64 to DC, but not much difference from DC to PS2/Xbox/GC. And games are dirt cheap if you actually wanted to buy some. NFL Blitz 2001 is way fun for around $10. I also bought Seaman with microphone for $10.

From what I have read, if it was made before 11 - 2000 then it will play backups, after that I think it will not.
But thats why I asked, don't want anybody to get it on my word and be wrong.

Marlin, you are right on track. It is October of 2000 actually. There is a change made to some of the systems after that date that won't allow you to play backups, but again, only some. What the percentage is I have no idea that the change was made to. What I do know is that the games are really dirt cheap, you can't lose with this system. It is just as good as a PS2 if not better, and it costs only $50. Not to mention the cheap games.

And about the Bleemcast. There was a company (now dead) that manufactured 3 disks for which to play their respective games on the Dreamcast. I know that Gran Turismo 2 was one, but I can't remember the other 2 at the moment. The games look much better on the Dreamcast than the original PS1 - therefore the reason for buying such a disk. So the answer is that it will only play the certain game that it is meant for. And for only 5.99, it is worth it to me to play such a great game like GT2 with better graphics.

Bottom line. These are hard as crap to find right now, cheaper than I've seen in a while. They are great for what they are, and some of these games will be classics. A true "hot deal". And Spongebob, any chance I can get a copy of your 2600 cd?

There are consoles that do not play backups, but they are somewhat uncommon. Oct 2000 and later is what matters, not the color of the console.

Just go to the For-Sale section. People get arounf $40-50 for theirs. Might go for a little more if it has more than one controller or some games and such.
Also check out HardForum as they have some come up in the ForSale section, that is where I got mine for $45 shipped.

Just got mine in the mail and I just finished running around the house whooping with joy (and I'm 36) b/c in the box with the Dreamcast and controller were SEALED games NFL 2K1, NBA 2K1 and MLB 2K1! How cool is that?! All that for $46.98!! Man, I was wondering for a few days if I should have bought it (impulse buy) because I already have a PS2 I don't play a lot, but now there is absolutely no question I snagged a SUPER HOT BURNING HUNK OF FIRE DEAL!




edit: I meant WSB 2K1, not MLB 2K1. Also wanted to give props to billsguy for allowing me to land this deal!

post October 2000 and thus not able to boot CDR media.

Thought I'd point out that my DC is a Dec 2000 model and it plays backups just fine. I have about 10 so far, and they all work great.

Anyone have any info on the PAL mod? I have a July 2000 WK version and did the PAL mod, but it doesn't have any effect, still only plays in NTSC and the PAL game I have doesn't work either.

Hi all. I'm new here as you can see. I picked up on this deal but there were no games included, just the console. I am still VERY happy with the purchase. Everything in the box looked brand new and it plays the NES, SNES, Atari, and SMS emulators perfectly. My thanks to Billsguy for finding this.

I had this thing shipped to my parents place because I live in an apartment and don't trust the package delivery methods here. Needless to say my Dad fell in love with the console and immediately wanted one. I gave him mine tonight which led me to search out another one of these gems for myself.

I came across two sites selling these babies for fairly decent prices, if anyone is still interested.

Gamestop is selling pre-owned console bundled with a game for 69 bucks. I bought the DC + NEW dead or alive 2 + free t-shirt for $69.

This place (Buy-Rite): Is selling the console + "one free game of Buy-Rite's choice" for 59 bucks.
It doesn't specify, but I'm assuming that the console is pre-owned. I'll be mad if its new because I opted for the package from gamestop....
