Yes, in addition to all the other crazy stuff we've come to expect from dreamhost, they have just quadrupled the storage and octupled the bandwitdth for all plans.

You can see a comparison here: http://www.dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html

Now we just need another deal to come around for ~$20 a year

I've used them for a couple of months now and have had no problems. Well, they've had a very limited number of server problems that have never affected me. They are always adding new features and their support is great.

hmm this company isnt run by a guy named shawn is it? they are overselling so baddly that they cannot sustain this. they are betting too heavily that no one will use all storage and bandwidth they have.

i would stay away from the wetdreamhost, because eventualy this dream will turn to a nightmare.

I've had 'em for several months (since the $7.94 a year deal) for several backup/junk sites with no problems

Have been using these guys for a number of sites for the last year or so. Nothing but great things to say about these guys (I had moved four different hosting providers in one year before that)

I would seriously think your right. If everyone used the max space/bandwidth, would they really have the resources to support it? Or will they deny you service.

I've also wondered that. What happens if you actually use all your alloted resources?

Yes I was but this is NOT owned by CEO Shawn J White.

Trust me DreamHost is NOT my favorite web host but if you need a lot of space/bandwidth and you're a cheap tight ass, this fits the bill.

SonataWeb.net FTW!

Codes are available for you to get the L1 plan for a year for $22.40. Not sure if I can post it here, but pm me if you need one.

I do not recommend Dreamhost if you plan on hosting a business or any website where uptime is of importance. Their restrictions on CPU usage will prevent you from ever reaching the 1 TB of bandwidth on your shared plan (probably even if you just had static HTML pages), their support is slower than other hosts than I've had (although it is within 24-48 hours), and after going through repeated server downtimes as well as database server downtimes or just random outages, I just flat out don't trust them to keep an important site online.

for a business, i wouldn't suggest anything but dedicated hosting. and i would look for one that has guaranteed uptime.

as far as dreamhost. i have several sites running off of them. they have an excellent faq section and have always received a reply back to any inquiry within 24 hours.

after struggling by with another host for several years, dreamhost has been an awesome change of pace.

I don't have first-hand experience, but after seeing this deal, I searched around for feedback on the company.

There are a number of reports of users being given warnings that their CPU usage is too high and being pushed to upgrade to a more expensive plan or have their accounts cancelled without refund.

I was with a different host that had the same tactics. I was well below my storage and bandwidth quota, but they tried to force me into a higher package claiming I was using too much CPU. After the fact, I found out that it was their own inept security that caused the problem.

Anyway, this is obviously a case of outrageous overselling, which is commonly followed by forced upgrades for any but the most low-traffic sites. And yes, memories of Shawn do come to mind...

It's probably fine for a small, low-traffic personal site that doesn't use a database, but it sounds like it's not worth the trouble for anything more than that, despite the seemingly generous quotas.

Agreed. Heck, I wouldn't use it for even a small hobbyist site trying to attract visitors. Tons of research out there showing how downtime combined with poor performance will severely destroy your presence.

I've been with dreamhost for over a year.

They have constant database outages, once their firewall was blocking traffic to most of their users websites...constant small problems.

I have a hobby site that has grown a lot since I first started and it was kicked off their server for using too many CPU cycles. I've never gotten close to using half my bandwidth.

I now have a dedicated server for most of my sites. I use dreamhost for several smaller ones.

I've been using DreamHost for a year now, and I've been very happy with my service. The only outage I've had with them is when the power went out in LA for a day, and their building had two or three of their generators fail (a building issue, not them). Otherwise, they've been extremely helpful and I've had no site issues. They make sure they're using stable software for everything, and they have a great selection of "One Click Installs" for easy site building.

I paid $9.95 for my first year in a promotional deal, and I just resubscribed for hosting at the normal price. I had no qualms about paying them since the service has been so good. My only complaint is that domain renewal and hosting renewal is handled separately--it would be tremendously more helpful to just have both renewed at the same time instead of having to do it separately. They use their own Control Panel, too, instead of CPanel, but it's just as capable and easy to navigate.

If anyone would be willing to use me as a referral, please feel free to send me an email (email in profile).
