Funny, I think I recognized some of the stuff from CyberRebates there. Namely the laser level and maybe some binoculars. The level is $27 there and $119 at cyberrebates (but free after rebate - 5% ebates (~$6)).

I just ordered this and my total with shipping after coupon came out too $36.95 or something. Shipping was $7 bux to Chicago. I assume the drill press is probably cheap as heck, but I figure for under 40 bux you can't go wrong.

The RPMs look a little on the low side. I'm sure there are still uses for it. The $1000 drill press was 1700 RPMs, this one @300 to 600 RPMS. Not to say it's worth $970 more because of that, just a comparison.

Low Speed is GOOD.

For thin (Sheet metal) materials, like Computer Staff, LOW RPM is the correct one; you get much cleaner cut with low speed.

Hand drills use (as a compromise) HI rpm to compensate for the low torque, but it is not the right speed for metal

I hope they honor the shipping price. It is based on cost, not weight. Can you imagine UPS charging anything less than 20 to ship a drill press ?

I did not think I needed one of these, but its cheaper than a hand drill.

High RPMs don't do the cutting on a drill press, the drill heads do. In fact, slower RPMs are better for most materials better since it gives the drill bit time to clear the cuttings.

It's far better to invest in a good set of drill bits and keep them sharp. A dull bit on a 30,000 RPM drill is little more than a noisy smoke generator.

There is a company called Harbor Freight that has prices like this on almost any kind of tools. They advertise in Wood magazine, American Woodworker, etc. Shipping is always free.

The problem with cheap tools is that they break down quickly, and you are generally SOL. Still, check out the firm if you are a "sometimes" tinkerer. Some good stuff is mixed in too--I got a 5 wood chisel set from Crown Tools (very high quality brand) for $17.

Got mine today. Problem is that my workbench is in the garage and it's nasty cold out there right now. I just don't feel like setting it up. From the weight of the box though, this thing seems beefy. Anyone use their's yet?

I am giving to my father for christmas. They did charge me an extra few bucks on shipping though!
