My mom thinks is wrong to consume any alcohol. Well, i think thats total bs. I am almost 18 and I think as long as I dont drink excessively and become an alcoholic, all would be fine. I mean, who doesnt drink??

My dad tells me not too drink too much (he drinks himself, so he doesnt really care).

My point is, is my life, and nobody can control it.

by the way, I rarely drink, and when I do, I only drink about a can or two , so I dont know why my mom makes such a big fuss about it. (well her dad is an alcoholic, so that can be a reason)

well, it doesnt really matter what she thinks, cus I will be going to live in a dorm soon, and then, liberation will come .....

IT's your life, nobody can control you?

She's your mum, she can do whatever she wants to you.

Wait until you get to college.

Then you can drink and drink and drink and your parents can't do anything!

n.b: don't live at home.

That's most of the reason. One of the (among others) reasons I haven't ever touched drugs is that I've had to deal with drug/alcohol abuse for the latter part of my life, with my parents. It's one of those things that you never want to have happen to yourself (or other family) after seeing it yourself.

There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol in moderation. When you do get to college, however, be careful and avoid problems associated with binge drinking..

As twisted as it may seem to you, your mom does have your best interest at heart. She's not telling you you can't drink out of some sadistic pleasure she derives from micromanaging your life.

Drinking beer, is not a crime!!!

Come to think of it, drinking beer may not be a crime, but making it to college with a 5th-grade comprehension of the English language just might be...

And it CAN run in familes. Maybe she's trying to PROTECT you so you done end up like her father....

I seldom drink, but NOT because I or anyone in my family have a drinking problem.

To me it has never been worth it..

The risks involved are one reason plus waking up in the morning feeling like crap....and if your LUCKY, you'll wake up ALONE.

(Beer goggles can be a dangerous thing, ESP. these days..)

You drink a can or two and think you are a big drinker? Wait til you get to college my friend. I have some stories to tell after my first year...most of course involve excessive drinking. We ended the year with quite a bang. Me and one friend split the cost on 48 beer and let's just say it was all gone the next morning...i'll never forget that night...strange drinking games, lesbians (well, drunk hetero chicks making out), and a trip at 4:30am to a cheap diner to get one of the best burgers i've ever tasted (someone sober drove). BTW i didn't even have a hangover the next morning and you know why? here's a tip...drink lots of water before you pass out for the night/morning. I wrote a note in my room in big letters "DRINK WATER" so when I stmbled in a 5:30am I'd remember to do it...so i chugged like half a liter of water and I woke up fine, just a small headache.
Of course I am only a social drinker...I haven't had a sip since I've been home (nearly a month). And of course such nights as these aren't a weekly occurance! Usually it's 10 beer max. in one night.

Sigh...now i miss school again. Can't wait to go back again next year. Summer is so damn boring!

i hate to sound like an old man, but as long as they're providing for you and supporting you, they do have control over your life to some extent. since i was 16, i had to work to pay for my own food, clothes, car, gas, insurance, whatever... but my parents still paid the rent and if i wanted to keep it that way, i did as i was told. now i'm 22 and don't have to worry about it (still don't get a dime from my parents though but oh well, thats life)

on the other hand though, almost all of my friends drank alot in high school, and my parents were usually pretty cool about it as long as i didn't come home plastered or drive drunk, so bottoms up! you might wanna change your title though.... drinking beer IS a crime if ur underage

I watched my cousin almost kill himself from drinking too much. He's been in rehab in the last 3 years just so he can walk normally again. After I witnessed everything he went through from drinking, I vowed to never touch that sh*t. Your mom is smart in letting you know about alcohol. For a lot of people they let it consume their lives. Many of my friends that drink all started off saying that they would rarely drink until they started doing it for awhile, then their alcohol consumption became heavier and heavier and heavier. Now they live their lives around that one little bottle and it's sad to watch.

they only say its a crime cause you can really hurt somone if your not careful,(thats why I dont drink), but if you feel you can contain yourself while drinking then go for it.

In a lot of ways, you're right. It is your life, and one of these days you'll be all grown up and you'll need your own judgement.

But you should watch it, I've seen a lot of people go off to college with the attitude that they are "free" and can do whatever they want. They end up two ways, either they get in trouble with the law (laws still apply in college you know), sometimes big trouble and eventually end up getting kicked out of college, or they end up dead. I knew a guy last year (his first year of college) who was all set to "live his own life" and who had the same attitude you do. Well he lived his own life for 3 months until he went drinking and then drove into a bridge support at 80 mph.

My point is, your parents aren't complete idiots, try listening to them. Your mom doesn't want you to end up like that guy I knew, try to keep that in mind.

I don't see your english skills to be superior than mine. Next time, refrain yourself from making imbecile accusations.
For your information, I am the top student in my English class. I just don't write in an academic style in a forum because I come to share my thouhgts, not write an essay.

I will never drink and drive, that's just totally stupid.
