Drive configuration question...

Ok, in my new rig I have the WD1000BB (100G ATA100 IDE) hard drive. I am going to assign it as the prim master. That leaves me w/ my Pioneer 106S (16X DVD ROM ATA 66) and my burner Plex 16X (ATA 33 / ATAPI-4)......

Knowing that, whatever I chain together will default to the lowest common speed, I can either slow my hard drive (to ATA 66) by putting the dvd rom as the prim slave OR.. put the two optical drives on the same channel (secondary IDE) DVD as sec master and cdrw as sec slave....

Should I be concerned about both optical drives on the same cable and will there be read, write or data integrity issues when I choose to either copy, drive to drive (disc copying), or reading from the DVD to the HD and then burning to the cdrw (for burning reliability)?

I thought that with all modern chipsets that is no longer the case? Don't they devices now run at their maximum speed regardless of what else is on the IDE chain?
