I installed windows 2k on the companies computer and the boot drive is D and the storage drive is now C. Since the boot files are on C, and the system files are on D, windows wont let me switch them. Is there any way to switch them? I know it will have to be done with the cd somehow, I think,... if i can even be done. PLEASE HELP. While its not a problem, its looks wierd and i dont like it. Clearing the hard drive and reformatting is not an option as it cant be backed up ( pretty much full 80gb hard drive with art files with no place to put them). If someone can help me Ill give you a cookie Thanks in advance.

EDIT: two 80's running in RAID 1 (i think its raid 1, they are mirrors) with 8 gigs of the drive for program files and windows.

Without making sure to back it up first? Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

Isn't this what got you in this pickle in the first place?

I don't want a cookie, but I'll try to help ya out.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. If everything is running fine right now, seriously, don't try to fix it. Not untill you can get that drive backed up

If that's so, then you already have a backup, right? I may be mistaken, but can't you use one of the drives as a backup??

Take the raid apart, set one drive aside (as the backup) and start anew on the other drive. Then install both drives and work from there. I'm sure someone more familiar with raid will come in here and correct me... please!

Anyways, there's my .02

Perhaps you are right about not 'fixing something that aint broke'. as for the mirrors, I am going to admit this is the first time I have delt with a raid 1 setup and am uncertain about exactly how it all works. I was thinking, if it is a mirror drive it will restore it back to the way it was when the OS was all jacked up. I dont want to do that, that would have been a last resort only if i f*cked up the primary disk. But, as I said, I didnt and still dont know enough about it to take that risk and loose all that data.

I think I ill prepared the info that I originally gave. To clarify, the computer was already messed up (wouldnt boot) and partitioned as I explained, i just had to fix it.

Whats wrong with my cookies?

-> So if I take that backup and try to access it, will there be files? From what I understand (was told), Raid 1 doesnt even need a file system for the second mirror drive. If so, how can I access the data without restoring the messed up copy of the OS thats also on that drive?
