Ive test driven Mazda3 and it was above my expectations. Hopefully they are heading in right direction. Car felt responsive (could be super light steering) and torqy.

Last year me and group of friends went to most of these auto shows that were available.

We went to Mazda Rev-it (our picture was posted on their picture section ) , Mercedez C class, Lexus RX event and GM event as well.

Personally Mercedez C class was the best and besides Mazda Rev it event (costed $40) , all the other events were free.

The reason I didnt like Mazda event was how little you get to drive the car. 2 test laps (which was on a shorter different track (if u can call them that..)) and 2 real laps (which was about 18 seconds each ). And the track was not designed that well. I do understand that it is to make it safe for us "n00b" race drivers, but it definatly could have been better.

Benz even was free. Had 1 track you can go over and over and 1 track where you ride with a professional driver in a high HP car. Their track design was outstanding, you can actually push the car and see how it handles and feel the difference.
and we were able to go as much as we wanted and lines were moving fast because of the way they designed how ppl got in and out of the car. we went there @ 10 am and stayed till 5pm. it was simply a blast.

GM event was just horrible. They had most amount of cars and borrowed Arlington race track (which this 04 Mazda event will take place in) which has more than enough space to make any "fun" tracks. but their track and line system was horrible. Their policy is "you cant sqeel the tires" and tracks were made so you had to drive like a grandma. And everytime you finished driving, you have to park the car and turn off the engine which just extended delay ... such bad management and planning. not fun at all.

So, if this is your first time, go for it. It should be fun. But just know that there are bunch of better events for free.

here is the website for the old event.

http://www.c-spotdriveparty.com/

We were able to drive all C class cars and different trims (4matic or not) and nono there are no credit checks or anything like that. all you have to do is sign up and show up oh, yeah and valid driver's license.

GM had about 10 times the space and probably 10 times or more cars to test drive (GM = Chevy, GM, Hummer, Caddy.. etc, and they also had BMW 5 series and bunch of econo and midsize sedans) but it was just poorly designed and managed. Even though they give out free hats and cheapo t-shirts and the whole thing is free ( oh yeah lunch was included btw), im not going back unless they upgrade their track design and policy. no squeel? no thanx!

Go to a mazda dealer, flash some bling, and take a test run in the RX-8 if you really want to drive it.
Dont forget to bring your radar detector so that you can drive really fast and do some mad drifting

if its like last years event, sticks are only for "TEST DRVING" course which have 25mph limit or something similar .

Test Lap and Timed Lap cars were ALL autos.

I went to the NYC event last year with my GF. I was surprised she scored only a 1.4 seconds slower then me (I figured I would destory her). I don't autoX but do practice wheenever I get a chance. Its not worth 40 bucks to drive around cones. There are a lot of people and you don't get a lot of track time. at all. Save the 40 bucks and go to six flags.

Unfortunate since Ford owns Mazda and many of the cars are made in the US. I heard that you absolutely can't drive a foreign car while working for one of the big 3, since everybody will hate you.

No. Yes, they have other Mazda cars you can test briefly, but you can go to the frickin dealer if you want to test cars. As far as the actual track time, you get 2 runs for your $40. They don't even give you any free food, just free junk (trade show type junk). Save your $40, spend a little of it on an actual auto-cross if you wanna drive around a parking lot. Thing about this event is that you're not driving your own car, so unless you are an awesome driver, you won't be getting times as good as if you were driving your own (familiar) car. Of course, almost everyone there will be driving an unfamiliar car too.

Just saying I didn't think it was worth $40.

I'll definitely sign up for this one (Miami). Even though they probably have the same rules as the Ford No Boundaries event I went to last year (i.e. No Tire Chirping). It was still fun though. This should give me a great opportunity to sample the new 3, as well as the 6. One of which will more than likely replace my current Mustang (sob). It's time for me to step into something more practical and more affordable to insure, without sacrificing the "Fun To Drive" aspect. Thanks for the heads-up, 3point14!

I went for '03 and drove the hell out of their Mazda6s. Too bad that they are using Mazda3s this year because the Mazda6 is one of the best handling fwd sedans in the US.

Definetely worth it for $40 Consider it cheap autocrossing

And remember to keep your turns smooth... and don't hit the cones

Friends don't let friends early apex.

Seriously, though, how much does a regular auto-x cost for 2 runs? Can't be more than $40.

Um... Ford has a controlling interest in Mazda and many of the new Ford sedans are going to be based on the Mazda 6 platform. Just to let you know...

I'm doing the Chevy basically same thing, www.autoshowinmotion.com this Friday. Its free and sounds like fun, and often this type of event gets followed up a few weeks later with some kind of SERIOUS nudge to buy, ala the Corvette event we did one year got us a $1000 rebate on top of any other current promotion (too bad I wasn't happy with the vette interior).
