drivers question/help

i have a friend who was given a computer it is a AMD k6-2/500 fitted on a socket 7 mobo with AGP. I am unable to tell what mobo is fitted to it all the markings on the mobo are CE and FC. It has a Asus V3800 magic 16mg graphic card fitted and a creative sound card.

Unfortunately the harddrive is dead and I have to replace it and he has no CD's for the computer.

He want me to install a new 80gb harddrive and either Windows ME or windows 98 operating system. My questions are these:

1. How can I tell what mobo it has fitted if it is not marked.
2. What drivers do I need to install after I install the OS and where can I get the drivers from from.
3. Does it need a driver program like inf drivers installed to get the board functioning correctly with the components and where do i get them from.

I would appreciate any suggetsions to help me get this computer up and running from installing the new harddrive, formatting to installing ME or windows 98 and what I have to do after that in the way of drivers etc to get it running properly??

Hrm...first thing is to find all the chipsets that supported Super7...How about the MVp3 Chipset? I have an oldly luckystar based on the 5mvp3 chipset that ran a 550 k6-2 (had to be underclocked to 50mhz just to be stable!)

Ok I found out the mobo fitted to this computer is a BCM VP1543 and has the ALi 1543c chipset in it.

Ok on the mobo site it mentions these drivers:
1. Ali agp driver
2. Ali IDE driver win 95/98 /98se
3. USB host controller supplement

So is this all I will need to get this computer up and running after I install win 98.

I assume the install order for replacing the faulty harddrive will be the following

1 The hard drive
2 format the hard drive
3 install win 98
4 install the above mentioned drivers
5 install the drivers of the graphic card and sound card, printer etc

and that should do it

is this correct or will this older system need some other drivers install that is a bit obscure or has not been mentioned

any help on this is appreciated.

Also do any of you know a really good site with easy to follow instructions on how to format a hard drive. It will a 60gb drive and only making one big particion. (I have only ever built a xp system and that is really easy just slot the disc in and follow the instructions)
