Drives loading very slow ...

I have a Athlon 1.5 Ghz. w/ 512 DDR ram on an MSI MATX board running XP Pro.

It runs fine, but when I boot up - it takes what seems to be forever for the drives to show up in 'My Computer'. I am able to do other tasks, such as go online - and all is well. It is just this slow loading of the drives.

Any ideas? It can be really aggravating when I looking to load a music disc at start up.

check in your Bios to make sure that your running in DMA Modes and not PIO if you are then have that changed so your mobo can run your HD to its full potential. also are you using a 80Pin IDE Cable? and if thats all correct try this

Go into your Device manager, IDE/ATAPI Controllers, Primary IDE Channel, and Click on the Advanced Tab and see what DMA mode or PIO Mode you are running in to see if this is your problem... also make sure that your HD is on the IDE Primary Channel. you can get lags if its running on the Second IDE Channel.

I forgot to mention that I have an 80 gig SATA Seagate. I did check the bios to see if there was a setting for that - but of course there was not.

I will check the bios setup on the cd, and make sure that it is set right. It could be the part that slowing it up.
