It's called the speed of the road law, ask any law enforcement agent and he'll explain it to you. In good conditions, you could be going 80 mph and the cop won't give a rat's ass. But under no circumstances do cops consider it safe to be driving 90-100 mph. It's a simple concept. Studies have shown that not only does driving that fast significantly lower your response time, thus endangering those around you, your typical car is also more likely to lose control, spin out, you name it. Studies have also shown that the people who drive that fast are inherently really aggressive, thus also constituting a risk to others around them.
80 mph, while technically over the speed limit, is generally an accepted maximum speed under ideal driving conditions, anything above that is generally considered unsafe regardless of the driving conditions.
There's no "technically" about it. Anything over the speed limit is over the speed limit, and therefore speeding. If you want to talk numbers, how much more force does an object moving at 80mph hit with versus one moving at the speed limit of, say, 65mph? Your argument doesn't wash, you are not the arbiter, just move your butt over for a few seconds and give your high horse a rest.
I guess you never went to driving school where the speed of the road law is explained. I'm no physicist but since F=MA, it doesn't take a physicist to know that the faster you go, the more force generated upon impact. So yes, going 80 generates a lot more force than going 65 mph but your argument goes both ways though, the force you generate going at 100 mph is also going to significantly higher than the force generated by a car going 80. God forbid that an accident should occur but the chances of you reducing your speed and minimizing the force of impact seems a lot higher when you're going 80 as compared to 100 mph since the reaction time will increase and your speed won't be as high to start with.
I'll make sure to move over and let you pass next time you're tailgating me and i'll also make sure slow down and laugh at you when you get pulled over for reckless driving. I don't know about you, but I can't really afford the ticket/insurance premium hike that will inevitably rise with one of those tickets.
As a person who regularly drives in the right lane:
Get the fuck out of their way. I don't need some asshole trying to cut me off to pass you on the right because you won't move the hell over. By being a stubborn jackass you're putting my safety and the safety of others at risk because you're on your high horse trying to enforce the laws. The asshole flying by is an asshole, we all know that. Now move the hell over before you and the asshole kill us all.
