Driving with different footwear...

Today, I had to wear some shoes for an interview that I ended up just buying yesterday. When I got in my car this morning, it felt REALLY akward. Like, I couldn't get in tune with the acceleration, it felt really cramped down there, and my foot was sort of sideways on the clutch because I couldn't work it any other way. I then drove home without the shoes on, and driving barefoot was almost worse. For reference, I have one pair of shoes for everything.

Does anybody else have a problem adjusting when using different footwear (or none)?

i can't drive in flip flops. i have to take them off and drive barefooted, which is pretty comfortable for short distances. too long and my right heel hurts from resting it on the floor.

I usually adjust within a few minutes, but yeah...changing footwear sometimes gives me the jitters.

barefoot is a problem but everything else I can do easily. I used to drive to work in flip flops. Hell I drove long distance in flip flops before. Just gotta get used to it.

Maybe driving automatic is easy in flip flops but driving stick is different. All I drive is manual tranny and the clutches I have are stiffer than normal cars so I need the extra oomph that shoes provide.

Maybe that is it, shoes seem to give a better full press (if that makes any sense) for my foot. I don't know, it's just really hard for me to get the acceleration right. I kept revving the engine too much.

I can drive autos wearing anything, but very much prefer driving manuals with shoes (any kind).

Happens to me when I get new shoes. Usually once they break in a bit it's no problem. Driving barefoot doesn't bother me too much except that my pedals have rubber points on them for grip which kind of hurt.

I actually have a second pair of shoes I wear if I'm going on a more spirited drive. They are a good bit thinner than tennis shoes and let me feel the car better. The one thing I know I could never do is driving my car with boots on. Probably be like learning manual all over again.

I like a thin driving shoe but I find that most of my dress shoes are pretty good for driving in, some of the soles can be a little slippery though. Driving barefoot is not a problem for me. Flip flops are useless for driving though as are most boots. I won't wear boots while driving, they are just too big and clunky and don't give much feel for what my feet are doing.

I don't do barefoot, but I can drive in flip-flops with no problems. There is an adjustment period, my favorite driving shoes are actually some Clarks that I wear to work, they are grippy, comfy, and just small enough for a little heel-toe action when needed.

Heel-toe in flip-flops though is an epic fail for me.

Edit - Yeah boots are hard, just not enough room down there, it can be done but the soles are so thick it's becomes infinitely trickier to get any clutch feedback in my already pretty temperamental Subie.

Are you? You drive a fucking Camry.

My fucking Camry is better than your car, so :hmm:....

Which are mostly driven by old men. So what's your problem? Do you have 10 pairs of shoes for one type of occasion? Like a woman?

I really don't have too much of a problem unless the shoes just don't fit. I have largish feet, so some dress shoes/boots literally get caught down there while driving. Also, so dress shoes are slippery where the clutch hits the shoe...so when it is wet, my clutch pedal has less than perfect traction. I've had a few close calls with that (specifically when maneuvering around tight spaces using the clutch to modulate speed).

I can drive my vehicle fine with flip-flops, but I've gotten in the habit of taking them off while driving. The reason is that a good friend of mine in college got her flip flop stuck on her clutch pedal which resulted in her getting in an accident that took out her front teeth. I'd rather just take them off then take the chance.

I think it really depends on the type of flip flops, some are REALLY floppy others are tighter fitting.

Changing footwear is always weird for a few minutes, but I adjust quickly.

I actually like driving barefoot. If I'm wearing sandals i'll kick them off during long distances.

No sorry wouldn't trade my paid for WRX for your mom mobile. But it's your first car and your mom probably picked it out for you, so congrats I guess.

I don't know whats wrong with you people I love to drive barefoot. Makes it easier to feel when the clutch starts to grab. If it weren't such a pain in the ass to put shoes on and take them off every time I get in the car I would drive barefoot all the time.

I've never had a problem driving with all kinds of footwear or none at all. I didn't realize this was an issue for people.

Flipflops is all that bothers me, because the pedal (namely the clutch) likes to lodge itself in between the shoe and my toes, which makes shifting...loud.
