what happens when you are caught driving without a license?

haha, anyway i did this for a couple months. technically i was driving with a permit without a parent..but shhhh!

I think you get a citation. I just have a piece of paper with my number written on it, in case I forget my license. I have been pulled over because one of my lights were out. And I told the cop that I didn't have my license, but I had my number. I just gave it to him, he called it in, and everything was fine. He just told me to get a new light ASAP.........

Do you mean you have a license but don't have it on your body or you do not have a license whatsoever?

If you have a valid license but just not on your body, it depends on where you live. Here they just look it up on the computer and that's that. In many states they will issue you a ticket for not having it in your posession.

If you don't have one at all, that also depends on your state but the penalty probably includes a fine and in some places, they won't allow you to get your license until you are 18 or 19 or something as a punishment. (if you were like 15 or something)

my concern would be not having insurance if you get into an accident and someone gets injured.

Someone I work with was driving without insurance because he couldn't afford it (too many tickets/accidents) and his car got stolen (SUV). He had told his parents he did have insurance, so even though he lied to them, they went out and bought him another SUV! :disgust::Q

If you're caught, you'll be prosecuted for operating a motor vehicle without a license which usually carries stiff fine. And many more diferretn charges such as insurance not covering unlicensed drivers.
