Didn't see a thread on this so I made one.

I wish other manufacturer's would have went with the software keys like Moto has done, It makes the phone look a lot cleaner imo. It looks like a really nice phone but since they've announced that there's going to be dev versions I'm guessing the subsidized ones will be locked down.

I want to know how Motorola fits these big batteries into still pretty thin cases for the Maxx lines - and I want other manufacturers to figure it out.

Agreed. Motorola's Maxx line I consider a pretty big game changer in terms of redefining how much battery life a smartphone should have. Every company needs to get in on it

How is it better than an s3 when an s3 has the same specs with 2gb of ram?

Battery, build quality, signal reception. I'm reasonably confident to say the least that a user will notice the difference in longevity between the Maxx HD and the GS3 more than they notice the difference in RAM.

Lol because the gs3 has horrible signal!

It looks like a decent cell but the gs3 doesn't use on screen buttons so you actually have a lot more real estate.

Good luck dealing with a locked encrypted cell and I just read that moto is tracking rooted cells so good luck with a warranty claim.

The gs3 has a custom 3.8v battery and charges higher than a reg 2100mah would.

I can hit 4.4 volts fully charged and get 4+ hours of screentime using 4g and no WiFi

The only cell to out spec the gs3 is the lg optimus g with the quad core s4pro with the 320 GPU.that cell is 3x GPU performance and 50% more CPU performance over the gs3

The whole problem I have with the battery life in general is... an iPhone can last 2 days without being charged and being used moderately. Most Android phones with the same size battery only last a day if that. Motorola had to shovel a giant battery into a tiny device (which they did an amazing job of), but why did they have to figure that out? I realize iOS and iPhone hardware are optimized to work perfectly together and to be amazingly power efficient.

Why can't I get the same of Android devices without having to go to the RAZR series with enormous batteries? HTC has always had the worst battery life of Android manufacturers in my opinion, and their battery has always been larger than an iPhone's.

I'm talking mAh's here. iPhone 5 has what, a 1550/1600 mAh battery? My Nexus has a 2100 extended, but it won't last me the whole day without tinkering it, ROMing it, not using it, etc...

I'm glad they're figuring out how to get that large battery in there, but I'm also upset that they need to do that.

/|\ tiny screen also uses less power than Android's big screens do.

Moto > Samsung on build quality, signal, undoubtably battery life.
I didn't hear about the hydrophobic coating during the presentation but I don't think the S3 has it. The built-in (extended) battery could go either way. Moto's skin is much lighter weight than TW.
I think I actually like the MAXX HD better than the S3. How strange.

If you look at the actual battery life numbers the iPhone really isn't that much better, especially considering it's tiny screen.

I had a droid x and a droid x2 and both my screens got greenish white blotches on the and it looked like there was water in the screen.

The same thing happened to my brothers and friends droid x

I'll also bet that I'm getting better battery life out of the iPhone with my gs3.

I've hit 4 hours of screen time and over a day use without charging and only using 4g.

The s4 chipset gets amazing battery life over any older CPUs and this razor Max will most likely hit 2 days now using the same cpu

Wait, how do you know this when it's not even out yet lol.

History. Motorola's high end devices typically have very solid build quality, and they are known for their good signal strength as well.

the entire lineup looks really solid IMO, great specs on the phones and motos build quality is normally a notch above everyone else, some will bitch about 1gb of ram but its not really an issue IMO. the HD and the maxx are nearly identicial in size to the Gnex, actually about 5mm shorter

Looks like a worthy upgrade for my Droid Bionic - which works very well. So, why not help the economy!

The one thing Motorola usually gets right is build quality, if this is built like the original Maxx it will feel a lot nicer than the GS3.

Perhaps in terms of materials, but Motorola's new design does not hold in your hand anywhere near as comfortably as Samsung's. Going from a Nexus to a Razr Maxx, I had to switch back because - software reasons aside - the phone was just annoying to use.

As others have said; same way I know the next iPhone will have better build quality than the next Huawei or Sony smartphone. It's a very reasonable thing to predict because of history.

Its a ho-hum for me.
Nice phone but its coming 3-4 months after the GS3 so it better have better specs.
Only thing I see better is the battery life.
I agree with the build quality but I don't like the design at all.
Its not square, its not rounded corners, it just kinda taper off at the top.
There was rumor of a bezel-less on the side coming from Moto so I was hoping to see that.
The phone to look for is the LG Optimus G.

I really like the large battery but I don't like the non removable battery. I guess sacrifices had to be made to keep the phone thin with such large battery. I generally don't have a problem with the battery life on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. I can easily last the entire day with plenty juice to spare with normal usage. But the couple of times I needed the extra juice, not even the RAZR Maxx battery would've sufficed. I went through the regular 1750 mah battery and 2000 mah extended battery and it still wasn't enough. I had to switch the SIM card over to my 7" Galaxy Tab to finish out the day.

I really hope Android device makers keep making phones with removable battery. Going fully enclosed only is the wrong design decision IMO.
