Droid Turbo vs S7

It's upgrade time for my company supplied Verizon phone and I have narrowed down my available choices to a Droid Turbo or a Samsung S7.

Here's what I'm thinking:
-The S7 is of course the new hotness with all the new features but I would have to pay out $100.

-The Turbo on the other hand has an enormous battery, and seemingly comparable stats for the price at least to my untrained eye. I will also receive a $100 credit if I choose the Turbo.

I currently have a Droid Maxx and I love it. The battery life is great, I can drive around with Waze running and Pandora playing without murdering the battery, and I can run all of my usual apps with any irritating slowness. Although that could be because I don't know what I am missing. My biggest fear with the S7 would be getting significantly reduced battery life compared to the phone I have now.

Which Phone would you choose?

I would chose the S7 because it has a MUCH better SoC, a MUCH better camera, and I personally like the size much much better. Plus the Droid Turbo 2 took FOREVER to get 6.0, I wouldn't count on it getting Android N before the S7 does.

With that said you seem to care about a big battery and you haven't mentioned camera once. That seems like the Droid Turbo 2 is the winner for you.

I'd choose the S7 Edge, though that's another $100. Much narrower/lighter than the Turbo 2 with a comparable battery size and much more efficient SoC, along with the infinitely batter camera.

Forgive my ignorance, does SoC stand for System on Chip in this context? Would that be referring to the Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820?

you seem to care about a big battery
That is accurate. I don't get real excited about new software or features like the fingerprint reading. I want to be able to heavily use my phone for an average day without worrying about the battery.

the Droid Turbo 2 is the winner for you
Just to clarify, I'm looking at a Turbo, not a Turbo2. I can get a 2 but I won't get the $100 credit. From what I looked at, the difference between the Turbo and the Turbo 2 wasn't worth the $100.

The S7 has a pretty sizeable battery in comparison to the S6, I wouldn't be too worried about battery life.

The S7 is by far the better of the two phones (by a fairly sizable margin)

I'd only get the droid if it were significantly cheaper.

Yeah, the 820 is way way faster. As you would expect for a 2014 phone vs a 2016 one.

That is accurate. I don't get real excited about new software or features like the fingerprint reading. I want to be able to heavily use my phone for an average day without worrying about the battery.

Well if that is all you care about the Droid Turbo has a massive battery. The S7 wins on performance, camera, software, and stuff you don't seem to care about.

I would pay the $100 and not blink. $200 difference for a 2016 phone over a 2014 one? That isn't even a question to me.

But some people have a different value system.

Just to clarify, I'm looking at a Turbo, not a Turbo2. I can get a 2 but I won't get the $100 credit. From what I looked at, the difference between the Turbo and the Turbo 2 wasn't worth the $100.

Good to know. The big Turbo 2 benefit is the screen. I would rather have the Turbo 1 personally.

I have a Turbo 2. The battery is great, the shatter-shield screen is great, and I still haven't gotten the 6.0 OTA yet.

S7 reviews aren't really out yet, and I'm pretty sure nobody has one in-hand to report on battery life yet (which takes a while to nail down anyway).

I'm considering getting an S7 and selling my DT2, but only for the waterproofing - I'm much more likely to drop my phone into water than onto a hard surface. I've always liked Samsung's Touchwiz/NatureUX over Google-stock Android - it just has way more features baked in than stock.

So after reading a bunch about qualcomm SoCs it looks like 820 is supposed to greatly increase efficiency, and you guys keep talking about how awesome the S7 is going to be so I'm gonna go with it.

If I hate it I'm blaming all of you
Thanks guys.

My biggest problem with the Droid is the back button being on the left and not the right. I know it's minor, but it's also so irritating too
