Droid X or Samsung Fascinate?

I have the Droid X currently and am debating on switching for the Samsung Fascinate. I obviously know the benefits of owning either device, but I just want to hear opinions from everyone letting me know what they would do.

Personally, I feel as though the Droid X is hindering my ability to use Android to it's fullest. I love Android to death and being able to customize it is amazing, but the fact that I can't install custom kernels and ROMs based off AOSP instead of Blur is a little annoying and makes me feel like I'm missing out on so much.

But really, I just want to know from anyone who has either of these devices what they think. Cost isn't a factor, and like I said, I know what my benefits are and my cons are.

Sooooooooooooooooo..... go ahead and post!

Yup

Either wait two more weeks to see what's coming out or get the Droid X. Never get a Samsung device. They always have problems when they come out and take forever to fix or never fix them and are extremely slow to update the OS on their phones.

This.

Although, if you're like most posters, you'll buy the Samsung and ignore everyone's advice.

ahahaha no one seems to listen at all

I'm waiting until next month to see what CES brings as I need a new phone asap.

What kills me is that Samsung does stuff like push out updates to the Intercept that literally bricked some phones and people still buy them and trust Samsung...

i totally loved the fascinate design, but after having a bb storm i know how sucky software and updates can render a phone unusable, so i got the droid X, i had the original droid and software was always good even out of the box when android 2.0 was still new and they have been good about keeping up to date.

I forgot to mention that I currently own the Droid X and can get a Samsung Fascinate for free (NOT AN UPGRADE or anything of that sort). Haha. But I can only get the phone if I want to commit to it and trade off my Droid X.

I am going to be waiting till CES of course to upgrade my current phone to something new and amazing, but I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on which is better really.

Well the samsung has one advantage over the driod x; it will take non-samsung updates but as everyone has said wait until CES. I'm mixed myself (don't own either but have friends with both). The driod x has better battery life but moto blur sucks rotten egg. I prefer the samsung form factor and fast gpu but the stock phone has a lot of issues (esp gps). Basically samsung knows how to make the phone look pretty but moto knows how to eng and program the phone. Now if they would just drop the locked boot loader and gain a bit of artistic talent ... btw I currently use a non-smart phone on sprint network but will likely upgrade to either a verizon or sprint smart phone. sprint customer support has gotten a bit better the past year but the 4g phone selection is thin. Also $80 is a bit harsh but I suspect verizon lte will be a bit more than $80. Oh well.

I've seen pics of an HTC EVO like phone with CDMA/LTE on Verizon, that would be my pick.

Moto makes solid phones, but they keep locking them down, Samsung has issues, I've always had good luck with HTC products and they're more hack friendly...

I am afraid we're seeing the last days of easily moddable phones though...

Of the two, I'd keep the Droid X.

I was looking at both of these and decided to go with the Droid X. I love it and happy with my choice!

Hope not. Not nearly as much fun if you can't.

Also, install GummyJar. It's pretty much AOSP

What exactly does custom kernels give you. Because I'm using Gummy and everything is instantaneous. I have no idea how much faster it can get.

Tethering ability(wired&wireless), overclocking, underclocking, voltage control.

May i suggest the droid incredible. Completly open, super easy to mod, looks brilliant, and with an extended battery lasts forever.

Uh, usually major phone announcements come at MWC in Feb don't they? That's when WP7 came out shining and HTC launched the Desire and Legend and a slew of other phones from other manufacturers.

This is usually accomplished via rooting. Custom kernel gives you kernel tweaks to adjust things like power usage and stuff, and responsiveness, etc. You can already do those things above with the D2 and DroidX and all of them have locked bootloaders still (i.e. no custom kernels).

It is done by kernel tweaks. The D2/DX have gotten kernel tweaks, but the phone doesn't see the mods, it only sees the original kernel. That is how they were able to change the clock speed.

If you are a heavy modder I'd recommend either the Incredible or the Fascinate.
