Droid X is shipping 15th July.

Engadget exclusive Hands-On (with video)
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/15/exclusive-motorola-droid-x-preview/

Ok, first off the name is ridiculous IMO. It was rumored previously as the Shadow... then the Xtreme (lol) and now just the X. They still have some time to change it, right?

Anyway, confirmed specs (from Android Forums):

*** Tablet form-factor (no physical keyboard)
*** "4.3" TFT FWVGA screen, 854×480 display
*** Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 Processor (a 720MHz ARM Cortex A8)
*** 2MB built in memory
*** Android 2.1, with soon-to-follow upgrade to 2.2
*** Moto BLUR with updates such as BLUR community chat
*** 8 MP camera with dual LED-Flash
*** 720p HD Video recording
*** HDMI out
*** ~9mm thick = ~ 0.4 inches
*** Releasing in July
*** 1500mAh battery
*** Power button and Home button wake the screen when locked
*** Magnet sensors trigger dock and car mount modes
*** No SIM Slot, not a world phone.
*** NO FRONT FACING CAMERA

Other tidbits:

We got a early hands on with the Motorola Droid Xtreme today and wanted to give you guys some details on the specs. The build quality is very similar to what we all expect from Motorola. SOLID. The screen is awesome and the colors are much better than the Droid. Motorola did not use an AMOLED screen. Possibly the same type of IPS screen used on the Droid.

Eww...MotoBlur. I'm really hoping this can be rooted easily though. I was going to get the next iPhone but... I'd rather have this instead. :awe:

I like the idea of the hardware navigation keys rather than touch keys. But I don't see the point of Motoblur.

Moot point either way, I have a rooted droid, not seeing anything there that'd be enough to upgrade.

Is it still big and heavy enough to bludgeon someone with? The original is a tank.

boo HW nav buttons

Wait, is this thing a slider?

I don't see a hardware nav button, where is it?

edit: I see it described in the article, but I don't see anything that looks like nav buttons.

What is up with this bigger form factor? I can't stand it. It's my biggest dislike of the evo.

I quite like this. Moto may not have the most models on the market, but at least the ones they do put out are quality products. I'm a bit more interested in the Droid 2, or the rumored Droid pro, because of a physical keyboard.

home, menu, back, search

nav buttons

I got ya. When I saw hardware nav button, I thought a dedicated button for GPS or something.

I don't really mind physical buttons, after having played around with the HD2 for a bit.

yea i don't mind physical buttons either, I do wish they would keep the same button layout though. I've gotten used to and like the order being (back, menu, home, search) just makes sense to me having back as the leftmost button from all the browsers etc that do it

If that is indeed a 4.3" screen, then its more widescreen(narrower and taller than the EVO). Don't know if that is good cause you want the width to be wider to have a more spacious keyboard in portratit mode.
I like the design but thats an aweful lot of wasted space below with the big ole Verizon logo.
Could have cut the height of the phone a good .5" inch but getting rid of the part.

This, I absolutely hate touch screen. I have storm aside from its shortcommings, I just will not buy another keyboardless phone. The HTC 8125 was the last slider I had it was great having the keyboard and I miss it!

Hope the droid comes out soon so I can buy it! lol I hate my storm

Have you tried any other touchscreen phones besides the Storm? And was it the Storm 1 or Storm 2? I am just curious because I was under the impression that the Storms were not very good touchscreen phones, that you needed to get your hands on a Nexus One, iPhone, Droid or similar to really get an idea of what a touchscreen phone can do.

Love the keyboard on my Droid.

If I have to type anything substantial, there is no alternative.

The storm is especially ridiculous since you need to physically press the entire screen down instead of just tapping it.

This. Use a proper touchscreen phone with a large screen before you rule it out. After my HTC Kaiser and Raphael I was sure I'd always have a qwerty slider, but I'm very happy with my evo, and probably would with an incredible, N1, iphone, etc

Yup, looks like the X 4.3" screen is narrower and taller than the EVOs.
Keyboard in portrait mode might not be as spacious but then the one handed ussage might be a bit easier.
As I was saying , theres alot of wasted space between the screen and the physical button.
They could have made it as tall as the EVO.

Dimensions of the 3 4.3" phone.
Motorola X:
5.01 x 2.5 x 3.9
5.47oz
HD2
4.76 x 2.64 x .43 inches
5.54oz
EVO
4.80 x 2.60 x .50 inches
6.00oz

One thing I notice is that it has 16m color display vs the other 2 64K color display.
